Maybe there is some info here as to where they can be spotted? http://www.rspb.org.uk/community/wildlife/f/901/p/43383/285097.aspx#285097

Yes looks like they have been seen in Devon and a few not too far from my area so will keep a look out now! Thanks Taz.

Around mid-Wales there were buzzards, then in the mid-1980s red-kites were re-introduced.  In order to maintain a breeding colony a farmer feeds them at a regular time every day.  Over 40 gathered the day we went to view.  Since then they have spread to the M40 corridor, seen often in the Chilterns - I saw 1 around Oundle last weekend and 2 down the road between Luton and Hemel Hempstead the weekend before.  Even in South Northants occasionally ...........

Do you come under the Midlands figures CLKD?  You  might find this interesting to as to how the breeding programme was begun and how well it has become established http://www.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/birdguide/name/r/redkite/conservation.aspx

Yep.  I report any sighting via a red-kite web-site.  Will look at the Link later  :thankyou:

Remember I had a visit from a badger for a few nights a couple of weeks ago? I think I have found the reason for his appearance and since then his disappearance. I was speaking to the warden of our local forest last night and he explained that at this time of year the young male badgers are turned out of their sets by the adult males. They have to roam around and find a new territory. Mine was probably passing through. He also said that a high percentage of badgers you see killed on the roads at this time of year are young male badgers trying to find somewhere new to live.  :(

Oh dear. That's interesting re the roadkill - sad though that yours has disappeared.

There are a lot of dead badgers at the side of the roads round here. I hadn't twigged that could be a reason. Also because there is a very high incidence of bovine TB in the SW, besides the search for new territories, I gather some of them are unfortunately shot by farmers (illegally) on their land and chucked onto the road to make it look as if they are accidental road casualties....  >:(

Yep Hurdity that is so true.  Perhaps DEFRA should be instructed to pick up every carcase and do investigations to see exactly how wide-spread TB really is  >:(
