They are so pretty - I love watching them. They chirrup into my garden around 3.30 and after five minutes they have gone again. There is a tree on one of the walks I go on which is the pre-roost spot for them. They arrive just as the sun is beginning to set and they sound so lovely chattering away to each other.

Ask them to pop over to our garden if you live anywhere near us Taz2  ;)

I have tried to send some off but they don't seem to be in a hurry to leave!

This is the latest video from HART - I know that some of you have enjoyed seeing the animals before - it is to fund raise for the next part of the project https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=lnam5CFkTkQ

I went to Welney Wetland Trust on Wed to see the swans feeding.  Treated myself to 4 bone china mugs - Wren, Robin, Goldfinch & Blue Tit.  They were 4 for the price of 3 so I couldn't resist.  Says "Heath McCabe" on the base and "Gareth Watling".
Anyway, they're very nice and a good size.

I also bought yet another feeder - this one's called  "Clingers only" and is especially for smaller birds like tits and goldfinches that cling while they feed and bigger birds like starlings and pigeons can't get an easy foothold and feed elsewhere. That was £12.

The Clinger ones are really good although they can drop a lot of seed too which is a nuisance. I feed countless pigeons and doves and although they eat such a lot every day I hate the thought of taking away their food source when they have obviously bred to suit the availability of food. At the moment I have two large feeders with saucers on the bottom which the pigeons and doves soon empty and a smaller one for sunflower hearts for the goldfinches which is filled twice a day (they drop loads too as there is no saucer on there to keep the pigeons off) and then niger seed in a separate tree. Again lots of droppage which is a pain.

Weather and wind.... http://www.wwt.org.uk/news/all-news/2012/11/wwt-slimbridge-diaries/wwt-slimbridge-diaries-bewicks-swan-diary/the-swans-are-late-and-yes-its-the-weathers-fault/   but at least they have had a good breeding season CLKD. I really used to love going to Welney when I lived in the area.

Just back from a weekend in very wet and flooded South East Cornwall, managed to spot a peregrine falcon, little egrets, sandlings, oyster catchers and many cormorants.

Gorgeous full grown goldfinch on the niger feeder, the first bird that isn't a tit or a robin  :)

Just had a squirrel raiding the bird feeders.  ::)  He looked like he was taking part in Movember - he had a black stripe from his nose round each side of his face that just looked like a moustache!! :{)
If he comes back I'll take a pic and send it to my son; he's organised a movember thingy at work. He'd like that. :)

We bought a squirrel feeder to keep our two squirrels off the bird feeders. I love watching them bury the nuts that I give them. The blackbird sits and watches and as soon as the squirrel has gone he digs up the nut and eats it  ;D ;D

I spotted a strange bird in the garden the other day. I had never seen one like it before....after a bit of googling I discovered it was a wax wing.
Then in one of the Sunday papers there was an article about wax wings being the harbinger of very cold weather.

What a pretty bird.

You are so lucky to have seen a waxwing. A good place to see them is in supermarket carparks as they tend to plant the bushes with the berries on which they love.

I wonder if your blackbird is actually a starling? Blackbirds are not nut eaters but starlings love them!

Oh wax wings, we have a crab apple tree grown for them.

The neighbours had a heron in their garden 2 days ago, he's moved into the estate it seems  ::)
