Maybe it's Scottish.  I thought everyone called their little finger their pinkie.  ::)

Have you considered it was a pipe with a hole in the middle that was the size of your pinkie  ;D ;D.

And yes I have always called my pinkie my pinkie  ;)

ROughage  ;)  it's the legs that get inbetween my teeth though    ...... if you think seriously about what prisoners of war have to contend with  >:(

Thanks for the lovely photos - are there 14 baby birds with their Mum?  Also, the woodpecker is like the ones that visit my friend: you know the one whose friend had the spiderlings ....  :-X

There's a thrush singing close by this eveing, I will leave the window open and listen whilst I'm in my bath  ;)

Rattlesnake just outside my front door as I started to walk dogs this evening.  Posted on other thread, but this sure as heck is wildlife.  Scared me to pieces.  Very venomous.

HB I did think that at one point, but there were bubbles coming up at regular intervals.  Ok I know it sounds like I've lost the plot, hubby thought that.  ;D  If it hadn't been in a canal I would normally have thought that it was for aerating the water, like in a fish tank.  Ah well, like my daughter says, I question the daftest of things!  ::) Me?!  ;D

Trey, that would have scared the &^%$ out of me!  Heck my niece on her first ever visit to Oz, before moving there, got bitten by a poisonous spider and ended up in hospital.  That would have put me off moving there for sure.

As for swallowing spiders, while we sleep.........  :-\

I have always called it a pinkie too (both here in the south and in east anglia) and so do all the children at school.

Long pipe leading into canal - could it be from one of the outer over-spill ponds?  How about asking the water board?

I don't do snakes <shudder>

Just before the heavy rain storm I picked our first broad beans.  They have been cooked in water with sugar and salt added, bubbled gently for 5-6 mins.; drained and butter added with black pepper scrunced over.  YUMMY .............  :-*

Not asking water board as I don't live there, only visiting.  I was just curious.  Curiosity killed the cat and all that.   :cat88:

You could send an e-mail to the local canal bods to find out more?
