On my daily dog walk today I saw some Bramblings.  On Tuesday I saw some Coal Tits.  I tell you my half hour walk at this time of year is bliss. :)  Even if it's pouring (which we've had plenty of recently) I enjoy my little bit of solitude.  I go about 8am and we go down a quiet lane and then over a field and back in a circular walk.  I actually feel quite miffed if I meet anybody else!   If I see another dog walker coming in the distance I can usually nip through a hedge or take another track so I can avoid them.  I need my "me" time. :)

Taz, that sounds the best volunteer job in the world. If not perhaps for the troosers!
I get so angry with all that is 'planned' for the badgers.

Only wildlife round here is mangy foxes. I'd love to do what you do, fantastic.

How can it be Planet Earth Live when it is recorded footage because at the time it's screened the place is in darkness? Someone mucked up big time!! I also found it very difficult to listen to the sentimental tone of the script. Good idea but it's not working for me at all.

I've only seen 1 and a half of them. Been out this week when they are on.
How can they say it's live if some is recorded ?

Because the presenters are 'live' on air at the time!  In the same way as 'big cat diaries' from Africa was pre-recorded.   ::)

No - it was supposed to be "live footage" of the animals not the presenters! Lots of grumbling going on - especially with the choice of presenters and the cost. I just hate the sickly sweet way they are talking about the animals  :sick02:  I only managed to watch the first episode though. I explained it to my husband and he thought I was making it up and when he watched it he managed around ten minutes before having to give up.  http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/tvandradio/9253053/Planet-Earth-Live-criticised-for-lack-of-live-action.html   It seemed to be a good idea but obviously nobody had factored in the time difference  ;D

The first baby starling made it bang on time today. For the last 24 years our first one has always arrived  on the 13th May (apart from last year when it was one day early) which is my central sons birthday. Half five this morning I could hear the particular insistent noise young starlings make and there it was. Mum (or dad) was busily trying to feed it while getting it to stay still and then it was time to make it fly a little bit further each time. I find it lovely to watch. First from the bird table to the apple tree - it just made it - then just as it was getting settled on the branch mum set off for the roof of the garage. You could see this little bird thinking "What? Again?" but after two attempts it made it. Just getting settled again when mum took off for the apple tree again. Little bird looked distinctly unimpressed and just stayed put. Mum popped down to the bird table, filled her beak and went back to the top of the tree and called him. You could see him looking very tempted and in the end he gave in and took off in that sort of hurtling flight - no direction really - almost like he aimed himself, shut his eyes and took off! He got his food and they both settled down for a while. So at the moment there are upwards of 25 adult starlings bustling around the garden and one baby. I hope to see  many more before the end of the week.

Have got five babies now - so all is happening as it should. I just wish they weren't so noisy - every cat in the neighbourhood makes a beeline for my garden once they start shrieking.

I'm jealous, Taz.  :( We used to get lots of starlings, watched them collecting nesting materials and then feeding the young; always seemed to have a large nursery in one of our trees.  ::) Now we see very few; I know this is a widespread thing but I miss the familiar "rattle" from the tv aerials.
