Just to make you all smile .....

Been growing fantastic Lettuces, behind mesh until last week when OH decided as there were only 2 left to pick, he'd remove the protection around them.  He figured the chickens wouldn't bother with them as they were BIG(the lettuce not the chooks).

Minutes after returning to the house, picture the scene, 6 chickens huddled around said 2 lettuces ...... eating the hearts !!!  Little devils know we wanted that part XXX !!!  OH runs outside flapping his arms and the chickens stood there for a split second, stretching their necks as if to say "Who, ME?" - then they were off.

Now we've got to buy lettuce for our salads .... bloody chooks and bloody humans for being so naive.

I saw that - yes I think it is amazing! I do find insects great but that's probably because I live in the UK and we don't have really scary ones here that can do you a lot of harm!

It's amazing but, then, I have just spent a few minutes watching our silver fish in the downstairs cloakroom - nobody else in my family finds them attractive but I do. I know that they are not a good thing to have before anyone else tells me!

I have my green parakeets to keep me amused, morning and evening. We have a big communal garden and it's green around here, but still don't get as many birdies as you lucky lot in the country.
Crows, pigeons, magpies mostly although I do see robins and what I think (?) may be a pair of chaffinches - is that possible? Quite large, with browny orange chests and stripey wings.
And lots and lots of grey squirrels beavering away burying nuts in our garden and in the nearby park.

However in the flat (neighbour won't do anything and I am sure they are coming from their flat) we have had an ongoing problem with carpet eating moths. Those tiny little pale brown things. I've kept spraying every few months but while they aren't a major problem, they are still there. I put out sticky detectors and some of them have 5 or 6 male ones stuck to them. Plus my carpet got eaten badly when my cats were still alive (couldn't spray because of my cats). I'd love to get a new carpet in the lounge but daren't until my 'home wildlife' has gone. Any ideas?

Nature - dnn't talk to me about nature.

We grew a wonderful crop of spuds this year (as you will probably remember me saying) and we boxed and stacked the produce, under cover, in readiness for Winter.  Today we moved one of the boxes and a b****y rat ran across OH's feet - he'd jumped out of one of the boxes (the rat not OH).  On investigation we find that 3 of the 4 boxes have been destroyed - Mr Rat has had great fun, nesting and leaving droppings and chewed spuds galore.  That'll teach us a huge lesson.

No bragging next time.

We slice puffballs and fry in olive oil ......... no mistaking those!

Bought new bags of wild bird food this morning, ready for the snow
