We've at least 14 dragonfly nymph carcases and another flew today

Phew! That's ok then!

My goldfinches have brought what I think must be the last lot of babies. Such a noise they make and all the cats come running and peer into the plum tree to try to see where the fluttering is coming from. The bullfinches are there today and I am always relieved to see male and female as I hate to think of one of them losing the other one. I haven't seen the sparrowhawk for a few weeks now which, although I hate it when she takes one of "my" birds, is rather strange and worrying.

Another dragonfly this morning and a comma caterpillar

For the first time ever we had a pair of bullfinches in our garden last night. I heard unfamiliar birds tweeting, went to investigate and saw a pair of bullfinches pecking berries from my honeysuckle. They were finding it difficult as it involved dangling dangerously from the stems so after they flew off I went out and put some of the berries in a nearby feeding dish.

They didn't come back though

They may still be around Ariadne but, also, now the breeding season is finishing they may have been passing through. They mate for life and spend all of their time together. They adore sunflower hearts and mine were feeding on the spilt ones yesterday.

You have had a lot of dragonflies this years CLKD.

The ponds are 20+ years old but it's our first Dragonfly year, we're onto No 13 so far

we have been getting dragonflies in the garden this year. There is water maybe half a mile away, bit odd that they are this far away or not?
