That's great Cazi - though I can't watch quite at the minute as it is just buffering. We had some in our town a few years ago. They were nesting on an office block which was due to be torn down. They held up the building project for six months. They cleared the town of pigeons too!

Today I have taken an adult great tit over to HART Wildlife. A cat had caught him and broken his wing. Poor little chap. He was very feisty though once he had been placed in a box, covered with a towel to keep it dark and with a hot water bottle underneath it and left to gather himself together for an hour or so. Hopefully his wing will mend. Then, while I was cooking tea my newly adopted cat came trotting across the garden with a bird. I managed to confuse him (not difficult) and got it off him. It was a newly fledged sparrow. It was very shocked but not damaged in anyway. Out came the box, towel and hot water bottle again. I left him for an hour and he was looking much better so I took him into the bathroom as this is the only room in the house with no nooks and crannies or piles of books etc to hide in. He took off straight away so I released him outside and hopefully he will find his "family".

A little drizzle today.  Not enough to touch the ground though  ::) ......... got snapped at by a damsel-fly nymph  :o .........

Heavy rain last night, small electric storm, then it poured at about 4.00am, - yes still awake all night. Hasn't really stopped raining today, but good side is the crops will have the vital element of life, the birds have water and I don't need to water the garden :). O.H. wasn't to pleased though wanted to go to car boot sale, - mud everywhere. I love Mother nature.   I know a lot of people don't like foxes, but I am really enjoying watching the fox cubs playing late at night.

CLKD -I'm sure that when I looked through the threads yesterday , that I saw something about your kitten and the quail but for some reason, I can't see the post anywhere.  It must be there ......... it's me.  If I look for something else on here,' the kitten and the quail with become obvious', that's how it happens !!  How sad .... for the quail.  Is the other one OK?

Kitten was sitting in a bundle of feathers purring gently with the odd hic-cup  ::) the 2nd boy died of shock.  However, we have 5 girls laying daily  :-*

Drizzled in the night.  Ground remains hard though!

Still cold here.....central heating on again tonight. The weather has been shocking even for us. I did hear that most of the West Coast of Scotland has had twice the average monthly rainfall for May. I do wish I could share it around. ;)

We had a little visitor in the garden....a field mouse who was munching up the bird seed that had fallen from the feeder. Dont mind mice too much as long as he stays outside.

 The birds seem so much happier at the moment with the rain about. The blackbirds have been able to  find worms, and the thrushes have an abundant supply of snails in our garden. Had some young goldfinches here today, and a family of long tailed tits. The hedgehogs are spending lots of time routing in the plants for slugs. Haven't heard a cuckoo this year at all.

I was clearing out duck weed yesterday and came upon damsel and dragon fly nymphs  :-* ....... no wonder we don't have many tadpoles left  :o

Our shed is about 2 ft from the house and it's roof is level with landing window. Going upstairs this morning I glanced out as I was passing and saw what I thought was a dead bird  :'( but thankfully it wasn't. Had a closer look and saw 12, yes I counted them, 12 baby sparrows, some just happy sunbathing, some fluttering their wings and being fed. So cute and fluffy, and noisy. Such a bird's eye view, so close I stood watching for ages. Ahh.  :)

Just been sitting in the conservatory eating breakfast. Looked out at our large (unkempt, fairly wild!) lawn to see 2 ring-collared doves with 7 youngsters - never seen young ones before. Yesterday there were 4 young magpies and there are always lots of young blackbirds about. We must have so many nests hidden in our trees, shrubs and hedges. They don't mind the fact that we're not keen gardeners!  :)

The collared doves have two chicks each Bette. The reason you don't see youngsters is because they stay in the nest for a month after hatching so are fully fledged and independent when they leave. The parents tend to them over the month and gradually withdraw. One day they just fly off and don't come back. Eventually the youngsters are brave and hungry enough to leave the nest and off they go. My garden is a bit on the wild side too - the birds love it - my husband doesn't!
