That sounds lovely Trey - so different from some of the UK!!

Hi CLKD - I  meant how did you know it was a male Robin - the females are as aggressive as the males and there is no way of telling them apart - well not that I have found apart from the promiscuity of the males.

My goldfinches are clinging on to their feeders for dear life in all these gales. They get so annoyed with each other but I love their twittering and chattering.

That does sound lovely, Trey. Have you moved yet? I know you were looking forward to it.

Hi Bixby, Yipes!  Have I not mentioned that the move fell through.  The used a toxic adhesive on the hardwood floors and the fumes never abated.  It was horrible and I got sick each time we'd go in to open the windows in this newly built home and after two weeks of running in and out to open windows Don started getting sick.  We call our national poison control and were advised it might not clear for a year and called flooring experts who said there had to be an error in application or a crack in the concrete or the concrete was moist.  In any case, they cancelled our contract (fear of litigation) and we were homeless for two weeks and could find no other home we could tolerate and then (we were still here with escrow to close in ten days) the buyer asked if they could back out of the contract because they had not sold their home in this bad economy.  So we said yes and here we are and I've already made improvements with the neighbors.  I got caught up with a gossip and just enough was true that I thought it all was all true (such negative stuff).  So I broke off that relationship and have gone about repair the relationships with those that she detested.  And the neighbors have responded beautifully.  Shame on me for believing this bad stuff.

Thanks for asking.

OMG that sounds awful - poor you.
Sounds as if things are on the up with the neighbours, though, so that's one good thing to have come out of the mess. Hope you haven't lost out too much financially. At least you know your beautiful birds will be well cared for now that you're back.

Bixby, so right I still have my beautiful birds and seeing the second generation grow is fun.  Getting some new birds migrating through.  Don't know what kind yet.  Must get out birdbook.

CLKD, I waved, did you see me?

Mornings getting crisp.  Afternoons still very warm.  Oh, saw a woodpecker for the first time this week.

Sharp frost.  Birds' feeders needed re-filling as we were away for 2 days.  Off to check the quails ........

Morning!  I can hear robin singing so the meal worm bowl must be empty, well I couldn't see him/her on the tree or phone wires: he was sitting right on the windowsill peering in  :-*  Must Dash, Nature Calls  :D

I don't know whether to watch the birds in the front garden: Blue/great tits, gold finches, wren, robin, black bird - or the grey squirrel in the front  ::)

We've had horrid weather for the past week so yesterday, between showers, we put up the bird feeders and we've seen Black Red-starts, Chaffinches, Wagtails, Robins, Tits (sorry ladies).  The trees are almost bare and they're searching out food.

Hoping for a warmer weekend.

:)I have had a horrible time sleeping - keep waking at 3pm.  Now I know why.  I have the most beautiful raccoon climbing up my bird feeders and making quite a racket.  I had my large flashlight ready and shined it on the feeder last night and this beautiful face was staring back (only three feet from my bedroom window).  So now I'll leave him his own little bowl of fruit and nuts and take the feeders in so I can sleep and he can eat.  I know this is probably not smart, but for now, it will do.  I love wild animals.  Not too keen on alligators, though (used to have them in the ponds on a golf course where we lived before).

I have had 5 gold-finches and a brambling in the back garden this morning, plus a young starling.   :bounce:

Forgot to say first Goldfinches have returned and regular finches as well.  Lots of happy chirping sounds to awaken us each morning.  Actually they are chatting about the food and the cold.  If I don't get food out early the chirping is quite loud.

Trey
Sorry to hear your new home did not work out. It does sound more positive in your old place, and long may it continue for you both.

Hi Viv, it really turned out well.  And the birds, and now the raccoon, will benefit.  Went by the new home today and actually felt nothing.  Old home spruced up looks very good and our two Rhodesian Ridgebacks are enjoying the expanded side yard.
We've moved our two Japanese Maples next to three bird feeders and I get to enjoy all from my bedroom window.  What a super alarm clock (except for Rocky Raccoon who dines at 3am).
