Hi Trey hope your appointment went well.

CLKD - once the birds are out of the nest then there is no problem but there was a survey of nestboxes a couple of years back and they found dead chicks in the boxes with peanuts or pieces of peanut lodged in their throats. I agree that the parent birds teach the young ones how to feed from the nut feeders but these were younger than that. Mrs Brown, our little chicken, is once again injured - Bless her.  She tried to get a mouse off one of our "greys" and the grey jumped on her back, pecked her comb and the weight of the grey bird was on "Mrs Browns" back and right leg so now we have to lift her into the coop at night and out again in the morning.  We massage her leg and she wimpers but she can still grip so don't think there's a break but ....... hubby and I agreed that no matter what, we would never call a vet to our chickens. 

I DO HOPE SHE GETS BETTER or she may be picked on by the others, as the weakling.

Lots of massage.  If she is the weakling she will get pecked a lot  ..... is she laying, eating, drinking OK?

"Mrs Brown" our lame little chicken is getting about a little better today and has managed to get up the steps, with the aid of her wings, to lay in the nest box.  Can't help but favour this little bird - when the other birds go off around the garden I sneak her a tomato.  I know I shouldn't but she so enjoys it and as she can only hop a few steps then sits down for a rest, figured she needs some encouragement and TLC.

I think this injury may take a few weeks for her to get over.  The big grey bird who jumped on her is twice her size and weight and she's such a bossy little bugger.

I had a favourite in our 1st 3, 2 were joined at the wing, Martha was lonesome and picked on so like you, if there were treats, she got first pick when the others were the other side of the garden

CLKD - You have to be so sneaky with the treats - even with their backs to us, the others don't miss a thing.  Mrs Brown is improving and today has hopped around the garden although, she's unable to scrat for bugs and stuff and keeps trying to settle for a dust bath but can't co-ordinate.  Bless her

What's going on?  We always have house martins nesting on our gable ends every year and we love them.  This year they arrived as usual, built their muddy home and within days it fell down.  We were really sad, they built it again and that fell down too. 

Then we noticed they went to the other side of the house and started building there, so all was well we thought. Unfortunately their Site Manager failed to notice a large lead for the TV aeriel and they built it around this!   Every time a BIG bird (great fat pigeons or seagulls) sat on the aerial, this caused the lead inside to move and that nest went the same way.

So all summer we've missed the housemartins and lo & behold, yesterday (1st Sept) I heard a lot of noise and there were about half a dozen housemartins back where the first nest, which is now just a few blobs of mud.

I don't get it.  They should be leaving for Africa soon shouldn't they?

Swallows were lining up along the wires this morning, never seen them in the street before.  Sign of Autumn  . I think we have 2 more baby fish in the middle pond, plus the 11 in the bottom one!  Plus the 2 male quail  ....... I could hear frogs croaking one evening this week .......

I was very rudely woken by a crow crowing on a lampost outside my bedroom window, when i got out of bed to check, it was pecking the sensor on the top of the light and squawking like mad, every other roof top and lampost had crows just sitting quietly. But not this bloody one, could've shot it.
CLKD, what type of fish have you got?
