Hmmm Roses - I love Roses.

When my Father passed away 2 years ago, I bought 2 roses in remembrance - Breath of Life (a beautiful Peach, scented flower) and "The Pilgrim" which has yellow tightly woven flowers, resembling a Peony and smells wonderful.  Dad's favourite was "Just Joey" but up to now, the one in my garden is reluctant to grow.  I hope it doesn't die.

Reminder - Buy Rose Feed from the Garden Centre !!

I'LL ADD A PHOTO IF SOMEONE TELLS ME HOW TO DO SO? CAN'T FIGURE IT OUT

We searched for frogspawn this year, we couldn't find any, was it later because of the weather?

No tadpoles for us this year. Many frogs cavorting as usual but too cold for the spawn to survive, I think.  :'(

Our fish will eat it so we keep the top pond for frogspawn.  Stinks a bit by now though  >:(

Do the frog lay in your pond, or do you import them?

They appear every year - seems like 100's of them! - and then go away again. A few hang around and live in the garden - under piles of logs, stones etc. Think they always try to return to the pond where they spawned. When we put our pond in about 8 years ago, they just appeared so I think it's a case of dig your pond and they will come!

I have a pond with lots of fish in it. I've only ever seen one frog/toad in it. But it was later in the season and didn't stay. I thought they ate the fish! There is a net on the top, but they could get in, i've never even seen them in the garden, although we aren't that far from open boggy ground.  :(

I brought some in when Hubby dug the 1st pond 20 years ago.  The males stay around, the females spawn then go out into the garden - I think that's the right way round.  When we sit in the evening we can hear/see the frogs leaving the water to hunt for food, if the weather is about to rain they crawl out onto the sides ........ if we didn't put the spawn into the top pond the fish would eat it, or any tadpoles.  I would never bring frogs/spawn in these days due to 'red leg' which is fatal.

I'm always dubious about bringing anything from the wild into our pond. But we are building a bigger pond, and may like some tadpoles in the smaller one. Will probably remove the pond eventually but would be fun for a season or two. What is Red leg.

Don't build a pond and then remove it.  Critters will get used to being around, frogs in particular.  Red leg is a disease which can be fatal ...... and is carried from pond to pond by infected frogs.  I think that's the name ..... if you do a 'search' .......

I cannot contemplate being in a garden without a pond.  Hubby built the first then another to run into the 1st then decided to make the 3rd  ::) we spend many hours watching ..........

If you want tadpoles contact your local Wildlife Group [yellow pages] to get on a list ready for the Spring.

I probably would just leave it there then, we did get frogspawn a few years back, it was great fun. We released them back to where we took them from.
