I think they sound like gulls.  But I was told that oyster catchers sound like that too.  I did actually see what I think was an oyster catcher across the road from me the other day, but I could be very wrong.  Ornithology was never my strong point!

Is finding another bunny for our home anything to do with nature.  I've ordered all the supplies and the cage.  Other bun, Harvey, a mini-Rex lived 11 years and I miss the soft, cuddly, noctunal companionship (Don sleeps the night through, I never have). I've been trying to find a rescue but impossible to talking to a breeder about an adult.

I'll be so glad when the Goldfinches move on.  They are at my 4 feeders by the hundreds and crowd out my wonderful Cardinals and Bluebirds and they fight all the time amongst themselves.  Not pleasant to watch.  Can hardly wait for spring, although today was beautiful and warm.

Taz definitely a gull!!!!  Or several.  How could anyone think it was an oystercatcher?  They sound nothing like each other.  Thank you for solving a crime against hearing for me!   ;D ;D

Here in the UK we have rabbit rescue, RSPCA and other small animal places where bunnies can be rehomed, have you asked at your Vet Surgery?

Hi CLKD, I've called every rescue in three states.  I'm happy with the bunny I've located two states away and will drive over to retrieve him.  I've worked for dog rescue and always go that route first.  I thought I'd have my pick of rescues, but not to be.  The Goldfinches are driving me nuts - so much fighting and driving the nicer birds away.  And the squirrels are going to force me to transplant a tree again so they can't jump onto the squirrel-proof feeder.
Our yard is quite small so the extremely high numbers of birds (hundred easy) are exaggerated.

I've still got upwards of 40 goldfinches in my teeny garden. I love the squabbling though. I like the way they make such a fuss and the little siskins nip in quickly to pinch some sunflower hearts. It is also magical to stand under the apple tree just before it gets light and hear them whispering away to each other. I can just hear them saying "look the lights are on" and "the door's opening" and "yes, there she is, there she is" I know I am mad!

No not mad Taz,, a tad daffy but not mad.  ;D

I so love watching my birds in the garden. When I lived in my flat we did have a garden but it was out the back and down a stair so although I fed the birds I did not have the pleasure of watching them.
I now have two squirrels, which I know I should not encourage but watching them digging holes for the nuts that they have pinched is lovely.
I do miss my heron though. He/she used to sit in the stream opposite my flats front window.
The other morning I nipped out early for the paper. About two hundred yards from my house were two deer. Not sure what kind but as they trotted away they had a black ring around their tail. Roe deer perhaps as they were quite large. We also have a male pheasant who visits. We live next to a country park and they rear the pheasants for hunting and shooting season.
All i can say about this is
:cuss: :cuss: :cuss: :cuss: :cuss: :cuss: :cuss: :cuss: :cuss:

I have always hated hearing the guns.
Its horrible.

Our robin almost took my head off on Sat. morning, hopping onto a post eye level!  He then flew threw  ???   my hair as I went to let the chickens into the garden, he wanted meal worms!  The starlings watch for robin to 'ask' for breakfast then they fly down and take the lot  >:(  ............ so now we have special wire feeders which only small birds can access  ;)

When I popped into Tesco this morning, the store was filled with beautiful birdsong. I couldn't understand it - it was as if they were piping birdsong through the store - it was so loud and clear. When I got to the bakery section, it was even louder and when I looked up, I saw a robin sitting on the "Bakery" aisle sign singing its little heart out. It made me feel all emotional and I wondered whether it was singing so loudly in alarm rather than with joy.

All day I kept wondering how it would survive, how would Tesco get it out, would they have someone come and "dispose" of it for health and hygiene reasons? Poor little thing.

What a beautiful sound it was in such an unexpected place

Hi Ariadne - what a lovely experience. Tesco would be obliged to get in touch with the RSPCA who are adept at catching such birds. If he was singing "sweetly" then it was not an anxious song - the alarm call is much more strident and clipped. I expect that he made his exit anyway - they are very canny at getting back out the way they got in. We have a robin who frequently comes into our classroom but when all is quiet he/she makes his/her way back out again. He/she can spend all morning sitting on top of the computer monitor.

Sadly a few years ago a very well known garden centre had a robin build a nest in the canteen area and it was dispatched  :-\ .... instead of cornering off the area  >:(

To hear it suddenly likes that lifts the Spirits  :)
