I've not seen any ladybirds here yet but the first earwigs turned up in the hedgehog feeding station yesterday. They make sure they hide in the lid though so they're not a hedgehog tasty snack  ;D

I love my earwigs. I'm waiting for the first "family" to arrive. Usually there is at least one mum with her babies. It's fascinating watching them grow and also the way she defends them when I open the lid of the box. Earwigs are really attentive mums  ;D

While gardening I spotted an unfamiliar bird, managed to get a photo, did a google image search and I've found a Painted Button Quail! Lovely small scrub bird local to Australia.

We had quails for eggs several years ago: very pretty but not good Mums!  They lay the eggs where they like and we had to keep them under cover as they are 'flighty'.  Good feathers for fly tying ;-)

Not many insects due to the gales, hail storms and cold winds  :'(
