We have a lot of magpies round here.
One comes and drinks out of our dogs water dish, which is on the patio...
She just watches it...👀
It's very cheeky...🙂

Our hedgehog seems to have gone AWOL.
He obviously prefers someone else's food.

Haven't seen ours as we didn't put the camera out at night, but any food left over is eaten by the magpies shortly B4 dawn.

I've had a blue-tit nagging me today, when I step outside he's there ........ almost trod on twice  :o  ::)

Last year, the magpies killed the blackbirds chicks! 😢😭
We found two dead chicks in our garden, and some of their shells.
The blackbirds were going crazy, couldn't stop em though! 😡
I felt sooo sorry for em, couldn't get it out of mind for weeks! 😩
This is why I don't like magpies anymore! 😡

It's unusual for magpies to leave the chicks. They usually kill them quickly and take them back to their own nestlings. Sad for the blackbirds but they would have made a new nest and had another brood.

Well, they flew away to another nest, or another tree, (if it's the same pair of blackbirds)
we still saw them around and about, but yeah, the chicks were dead on the floor up the garden...maybe they didn't retrieve them off the floor because they knew a dog was there?
I don't know, but the blackbirds are still here now, only this year havnt seen so much of them.

A dog would put them off.

Nature can be cruel. Did you see the magpies take the chicks?

No Taz, just heard the commotion.....then when we went out into the garden, Two were dead on the floor! 😢
Just tiny little chicks, all bare and pink....
Such a shame....felt sooo bad for the blackbirds! 🙀😢😭
I was thinking, and maybe if we hadn't have gone out, they probably would have took them.

Oh such a shame. It could have been magpies although they usually just take them straight from the nest and fly off. Jays sometimes upturn the nest and squirrels are usually looking for eggs not nestlings. Two is s very low number for blackbirds. They usually hatch at least five so it could be that a squirrel took unhatched eggs? Maybe a cat?

Years ago we had a Summer roost and would sit out at dusk, counting the bats 'out'.  Was never awake early enough to count them back in.  Then they left.  So after 2.5 years we had the soffits replaced.  A couple of boxes are in place but haven't been used in 12 years  >:(.  The blue tit box however  :-*  8)
