Any dog which guards it's food bowl and snarls, no matter whether the snarl is directed at another animal or a human, is an unsafe dog.  Ask any reputable dog trainer or any animal psychologist.

Our dogs were family pets thirty years ago and were daft, not dangerous!   I'm sure they only snarled at each other because they were feeding side-by-side and were best friends again once they'd eaten.

Another pigeon spread all over the back lawn - I wish the cat owner would teach it how to clean up after itself  ::)

It is one less to hoot down the chimney, but I am starting to feel sorry for them  :-\  (and me   ;) )

Is it woodpigeons or feral pigeons? Probably a poorly one - there is a lot of trichomoniasis around this year which is killing quite a few birds across species. They become weak and starve to death and are often caught by cats while in the later stages of the disease.

If the head has gone it's a sparrow hawk.

Having talked to several people at Bird Fair the head is usually eaten first as that is where the protein in.

"Redwing breed in tiny numbers - perhaps only 20 pairs, or even fewer - in central and northern Scotland, so the vast majority of British birders only ever really think of the redwing as a winter visitor.  The birds that choose to spend each winter in Scotland and Ireland tend to be of Icelandic origin, and these contrasted with the small flock of half-a-dozen birds that I had watched fly over-head, and indeed with most of the redwing across southern Britain, which would have come from as far away as Finland or Russia.  "

Greater spotted woodpecker here for 7 mins. earlier: feeding on the fat balls.  Turning round so that we could see the holly-red feathers underneath  :)

Hey that's amazing! Lucky you! We don't see ours once the young are reared - they disappear into the countryside  and come back to our feeders in the breeding season. I hear their calls round and about and see them flying but they feed in the wild now...

I now they are not rare but I saw the little wren in the garden this morning, it always puts a smile on my face watching the way they dart around  :)

Oh we don't see our wren very often.  It's usually here early in the year and I saw it last week for the 1st time in months.  We have had her nesting in the garden and watched her feeding 2 young ...... but not this year.

Aww poor long tailed tit. They are always in flocks so I wonder what happened to the rest of them?

DH just found a newt in downstairs toilet -a first in 37yrs living here. Thought it was dead but it slowly warmed up in his hands. It's now been given new home 'down yonder dyke at the base of a adler tree'. Think we need to start filling some access holes! :)
