It must be that time of the year for owls.

We were watching something we had recorded on TV at about 10.30 tonight, & fast forwarded the ads (as you do), so it was silent indoors, our back door was open & I heard an owl. :o

I looks at hubby & he nods & says "yep I heard it too gal - it's a tawny owl".

Now I haven't heard one round these parts for ages. It was so good to know they are still in the area.

I bet that was magical sparkle seeing the silhouette like that, I'm jealous.

Haven't had hedgehogs in our garden since our previous dog had a very, very nasty "set to" with one years ago. It was a horrible outcome & one which I will never forget  :'( . We have nailed off any entrances to our garden since then as I would not want to witness that again.

I only heard the one owl. >:(

I can't remember if it's the male or female that does the "terwit", & the other one answers with the "terwoo"......I must get out more.

You are more than welcome to listen to mine every  night - keeps me awake with all that hooting  ;D

It's the Tawny Owls who hoot to each other. I think it's the male who does the typical hooting call and the female who answers with the Ke-wick call. Lovely little video here about Tawny Owls https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHxO-CTPI5I

Ha ha yours might say TERWIT but mine says Kewick like it's supposed to! lol  There's some brilliant calls here - different ones made by both male and female http://www.godsownclay.com/TawnyOwls/Calls/Resources/Yelps_(shortened_interval).mp3

I am watching a young blackbird turning over some newspaper to eat a loaf of soggy bread spread with dried meal worms …… there were 3 in that batch, 1 of which we noted yesterday has a 'broken' leg, deformed anyway in that he/she is unable to put it to the ground.  He/she feeds well though but whether survival rate is high/not time will tell.

I filled the feeders yesterday and need to put fresh water out later.  Himself has found several handfuls of live mealworms in his shed, how they wriggled in there to breed we don't know  ::) but the robin is close by eyeing them for lunch ;-).

The mealworms wont have wriggled into the shed CLKD - the beetles would have mated and then scuttled into the shed to lay the eggs. What have you got in there though for them to feed on? What lurks in your shed.....

Spiders.  ::) It's the flour beetle.  They can crawl into the tiniest of gaps, we get them in the area beneath the porch and layer of bricks.  The larva are quite fascinating too.

3 hedgehogs 2night  :bounce: - 2 snuffling at each other  :-\

They are daft enough to breed this late silly hedgies. Makes for too tiny offspring to survive hibernation.

I know they are flour beetles - you asked how the mealworms had wriggled into the shed. lol  ;D
