:thankyou: - we have CCTV security cameras but they won't work with the computer systems  >:(

We saw the trail cameras at 'bird fair' Rutland Water a few years ago and went to the shop a few weeks later to have a really good look and discussion.  It works via the MAC.

Have watered newly set plants/shrubs this evening.

You're welcome both of you :) any more questions feel free to ask.
CCTV cameras will only work on a computer if you buy a gadget called easycap. It is a kind of converter . I bought one on ebay from china but it was rubbish and gave a very poor picture.. mind, it was an old laptop though Lol

Oh I wish I could go to the Bird fair. If I could travel I would go in a shot. Have you any good footage from your trail cam ?

I have done a bit of gardening today . What a gorgeous day it's been too :) It's going to be a bit cooler at the weekend. But there's still the summer yet and oh my! I love those summer storms Lol.

Trail camera can be triggered by a blade of grass moving in the wind or at night, mice in the chicken run  ;D
The kitten next door likes to trigger it in the night  - he moves his head then poses as the light flashes  ::)
We don't keep the footage.

Today I have completely emptied my pond to give it a good clean.
I found 37 newts!! I knew we had some but thought maybe 2 or 3.
There were also 15 goldfish. Loads of shrimps? and a sucking thing that looked like a slug but somehow extended itself to look like a really long worm :o really freaked me out!

Now I am worried about the newts as I have cleared all the silt and muck from the bottom,  which I assume they love? Please tell me they won't die?

Does anyone know please?

Think the newts need vegetation.
As long as there is some left, hopefully the newts will be ok.

Is there any left around that could be put back into the pond?

They will be fine.  However, if they are Great Crested Newts you need a licence to handle them  ;)

The long thing was a 'leech'  ;) - we don't empty our ponds completely since we found dragon fly larvae which eventually hatched.  It hasn't needed doing for about 6 years PHEW as it's messy, smelly and tiring.

Tulips out  :)

It is quite difficult to tell. The swallow makes a next like a cup and the housemartin's is totally enclosed with only a small hole to get in and out of. This might help http://www.bbc.co.uk/nature/22527420

Taz x  :)

..and to add also that martins have a very distinctive white rump (on the top side) visible when flying which swallows don't have. Adult swallows have a long forked tail which martins don't have although the forked tail of juvenile swallows is also short! We had a lot (of swallows) chattering through the village today but they didn't stay long - hopefully our own breeding ones will be here to stay soon...

Also, the left-over pheasants (bred for the nearby shoot that they didn't shoot) are now wandering all over our garden eating the newly emerging veg that my husband has planted. They are almost tame - like chickens really as they are so used to being fed. Our cat did her stalking thing where she flattens herself, and got within a couple of metres of one, but then decided against it! Any closer and we will have them for the freezer  :).

Oh that's good news about the newts.  thank you!

Messy, smelly and tiring, it sure was! Not been done for 10 years and won't be for another 10.....I am soooooo tired and ache all over!

I think they are normal newts, really lovely. Should I feed them with something as I have removed all their silt? Feeling so bad now! Poor little things

My cat looks really funny when stalking the pigeons.  For all the wiggling she does she never catches any ;D
