 :thankyou:     ;D

I have never seen the adults take dry meal worms to their young and the young don't pick them up - but boy do they GO for the live ones!  :o  ::) ….. as do the blackbirds and when we had 1, a thrush.  Do you get the idea that I spent a LOT of time bird watching  :D

It's just that you mentioned the fact that it was a good job you had extra mealworms after I said about the caterpillars not being hatched in time for any early hatching bluetits!
>wave< Taz ……… I over-ordered meal worms yesterday  ::) so any early nesters should be OK here - either that or we need a really cold spell.
so I assumed you were thinking that the early nesters would be ok due to your mealworms

I use dried mealworms in emergencies at this time of year ………. birds are singing.  Birds are investigating the boxes, it's National Nest Box week  ;) - we have 2 boxes to move sooner rather than later …….

Espeically when I see what the forecast for Sunday might be  >:(

As for Nature - how about Niagara Falls iced over  :o ………

I was watching a blue tit with a live meal worm earlier - they nip it, pull of one end and shake off the skin  :-X

Niagara Falls ices over most years - well it doesn't stop flowing but the mist causes an icing up - sometimes as thick as 50ft apparently. It makes an ice bridge which people used to be able to walk across until it broke once and some lives were lost. It was way back in the early 1900s I think.

Sounds like your bluetit has the knack of opening a mealworm CLKD

It probably hibernated in there ellie and is just emerging. It's a bit early though - April is a more usual time. Not sure what food will be around for it. Do you know what type it is? i.e. how many spots? http://www.rspb.org.uk/makeahomeforwildlife/advice/expert/previous/ladybirds.aspx

Oh we had loads 12-14 months ago - in the rubber down the double-glazing on the sunny side of the property.  I have seen 2 this year outside and we had a butterfly around the house for 2 weeks - I put a dish of honey water for it.  Out it went on a sunny day.  I swatted a fly 2 nights ago it was HUGE  :o ………

2-day I saw a honeybee …….

1 yellow hammer and 2 male chaffinches on the neighbours' long lawn
lots of male chaffinches in our garden +: 5/6 blackbirds, 3 robins, a few long-tailed tits flew in and out; 3 pied wagtails, I can hear sparrows; a brambling and starlings.
1 of the male blackbirds sits opposite the kitchen window with head on one side 'asking' for meal worms  :D

We have had a very friendly robin around the garden and patio for ages and this weekend it was joined by another. They have been singing away and following each other around so hopefully we will have baby robins in the weeks to come. Lots of miniature irises out in the pots and some snowdrops so Spring is definitely on the way despite the fairly dire weather forecasts-sunny though today.

Female blackbird was begging for meal worms this morning, head on one side staring into our kitchen whilst I was at the sink.  Did I feed her …………..

I can see the frogs in our ponds but they are clutched in 4/5/6s in the mud - thought I could hear them purring whislt I was in the bath last night.  Have re-started the pumps to encourage activity  ;)
