I've got a starling influx this morning. Usually there are around twenty to twenty five but today over forty have descended. They tend to have a big feed twice a day - once in the early morning just as it gets light and again around three-ish just before dusk. You're right CLKD each flock usually has a "look out"!

We have very few birds at the moment, even my robin has deserted me. Fat balls and seeds are being ignored. I can only think it's because of the female sparrow hawk that I have seen around.

Wish it would hunt elsewhere and then maybe my little birds would come back.

Lots of pigeons here, odd robin or magpie. Though saw biggest, fattest crow near me the other day.

Went for lovely bracing wild windy walk along the Dorset Jurassic coast today in the cold sunshine - through some woods and to the coast.  Spectacular views. Saw brambles in flower and then surprised a roe deer which got up just in front of us late afternoon....

The flock of 6-8 long-tailed tits (can't get close enough to count!) seem to be visiting regularly and when I ground up another load of peanuts, 5 noisy jackdaws suddenly appeared and very comical watching them trying to get onto the small bird-table! We never get starlings in the front garden or at the table but not many miles from here are huge flocks of them and wheeling over Somerset in amazing formations known as murmurations - it's well known for them. My daughter (who lives in London) went for a walk near here a few days ago and was amazed at the sight!

Murmurations happen regularly around and under the Pier at Aberystwtyh and the 1 at Brighton - a great sight to watch.  Then suddenly, they are gone!

This morning at 9.40 whilst listening to Mum on the 'phone we had 1 wren, a few tits, a robin and 7 blackbirds in the front garden.  Several tits and a robin, 2 blackbirds in the back.  Now well fed with grain/nuts/dried meal worms and fresh water.

Hellebores - some need the old leaves cutting off now, a few snowdrops up and I can hear a chaffinch yawwing …….. like a squeaky gate already

Went for a forest walk today.  Very few birds but good to be out in the fresh air.  Very sticky under foot.  Looking forward to spring as am finding the dark days over depressing.

It's drizzling hard - so DH and I have been in the garden, cutting back, tying in, pruning; digging up a montana and rose, feeding the wild birds …….. finding signs of snowdrops and more hellebores so old leaves have been cut off those.  Robin kept us company and we have had a male bullfinch around as well as 7 long-tailed tits  …….. in now, having lunch listening to the very heavy drizzle on the windows!

We have actually got daffodils in bloom under the kitchen window.  About half a dozen so far.

Oh how lovely!  I have a couple of borders which I am going to dig out and replant once this rain goes over and the earth dries!

We've got bulbs pushing through all over, in the beds and the pots. Nice to think that spring is on the way though no doubt some frost and possibly snow to come yet!. Wet and a bit wild here, even the birds seem subdued except the robin who has been on the patio for some food just before the light fades.We also have a pair of magpies that come daily, I know they tend to scare off the smaller birds but they are quite beautifully marked and great to watch in flight swooping down from the trees.

We have: 2 greenfinch males; several sparrows; 3 pied wagtails which love live meal worms as does the robin; 3 male blackbirds and 1 female; great and blue tits in profusion loving the black sunflower seeds; 1 goldfinch intermittently …….. 3 magpies which the smaller birds tolerate.  Haven't seen the jay since C.mas Eve.
