Very very lucky  ;D - a few days later a bird missed DH on the same seat, the pooh fell behind him again at breakfast ………. we began to feel that the birds, despite us spoiling them throughout the year, were out to GET US

OK our bird feeding station now seems to be sparrow city!! Most of the other birds have gone - presumably their young are now happily flying about and getting food for themselves - rarely see the blue tits, just the occasional chaffinch not seen nuthatch or woodpacker for ages, nor long-tailed tits. Interestingly the magpies and jackdaws have given up too - too much effort to peck the fatballs through my home-made cage!

The hollyhocks have all grown up and are surrounding the bird table and feeders. Sparrows are having a field day and getting through the bird seed and fat balls at a terrific rate. Just sent son out to buy more! The aim is to encourage them here so they don't eat all our vegetables growing in back garden! Not sure it's working as it means they are more likely to be in our garden!

I think the wrens/s has/have fledged because two have been making a lot of noise for 2 days.  More when the cat or magpie arrives in the garden  :o ……… I poked my finger into the nest earlier and can't feel anything fluffy  ;)

Going to buy more 'nest' thingies ………

Later: yep they've fledged.   Parents are 'about' making clacking noises, I can see small birds in the grape vine, 2/3 maybe  :) and the blackbird is almost at my feet, wanting more meal worms ……...

OH has been involved in house repairs recently.
He went into the barn / stable today where some of his stuff had been stored.
As he opened a door there was a bit of a skirmish.
The reason became clear, a buzzard flew out.
One of the upper doors had been left open, the bird apparently thought it looked like a good place to kip.....

No - No nest.

We have been in and out of there quite a bit recently so think it the bird thought it was a good place to roost on the off chance.

Many years ago, well about 2001 just after we moved in, I wandered out into the car port (yes the source of the recent misery) and there was a bit of unrest then. It was an owl, which flew off into neighbouring trees. We have heard owls since, so can't have scared it too much.

Buzzards nest in the tops of tall trees - not in buildings but it's lovely to see them close up.

We have a tawny owl who sits in the oak tree just outside our garden each night. Lovely to hear it for the first few minutes but then I wish I could mute it with my remote!!

I planted plant to attract butterflies, not a single one.

Our house martins are having a domestic I think.  ;D What a racket.
