Unbalanced
« on: June 14, 2020, 10:37:15 PM »

I can't do day after day of this dizzy unbalanced feeling. it's affecting my life so much now. I can't walk straight. I can't lie flat. My ears are shooosing all the time. I'm lethargic. I have no energy to do anything. Everything takes such a lot of effort. I just don't know the body I'm in anymore. I hate this. it's so depressing. Is this how my life will be now ?

Although this can be a meno symptom it can also be an inner ear problem so you should get it checked out. What other symptoms do you have? Lack of energy is one of those things with many causes too though it is a common meno symptom. Time for a discussion with your gp?

I've had a brain and ear scan. I've see an ear dr about five times. He can't see anything in my ears or head. But it sure feels like somethings going on in my head or ears.

Hello Kay21

When I had Labyrinthitis I couldn't walk straight, it was is if I was on board a ship in a gale! My doctor didn't look in my ears but diagnosed me by symptoms alone. He said I should  move as much as I can to train the brain to ignore the wrong messages from my ears.

Perhaps contact your GP again as obviously you are suffering and need to be treated.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Take care and keep us updated.

If you've hit a dead end along the ear route I suppose the only option you have is ti try hrt and see if it makes any difference. I'm inclined to think it's more likely to be an ear problem too. Many people have tinnitus without their balance being effected. I had problems following a virus which damaged it. Every time I moved my head I was sick so there's no way I'd have been doing it deliberately! I could only lie on my right side. Did you see a hospital specialist? My gp has a trick of sending us to a 'specialist' who knows little more than the gp.

I had this!!! Horrific. Started at a young 42 for me. Never got better. Vertigo, dizziness avd extreme nausea. Like constabt motion sickness.

Fast forward 2 1/2 years, lots of tests, ct and mri scans, lots of meds for dizziness that didn't work... The pill takes it away.

I'm still not there. Trialling lots of different pills and getting various side affects, but it's nice to finally know it is hormones.

You obt mention your ages, but I would definitely recommend trialling some hormonal treatment. I truely empathise xx

Hi Kay,
I had the same thing about 6 weeks ago. It was horrendous, and seemed to affect my left hand side more than the right,  I had dizziness and numbness down one side, couldn't stand up, felt like I was 'tipping' to the left hand side all the time and the wooshing ears. I phoned my GP who diagnosed Labrythitis (not sure if I've spelt that right?!) and prescribed Stemetil, which I took for a few days, but seemed to make the dizziness worse for me, (but I put that down to my body not tolerating any new meds at the moment because it's being stroppy..    ;))
I don't know if you are on HRT? I started a new HRT regime 4 weeks ago (Mirena Coil and Estrogel) and my symptoms have definitely settled more now, but I have noticed that I still get the 'whooshing' in my ears when I use the Estrogel, which makes me wonder if my previous symptoms were down to hormones after all??
It was a new thing to me, and scared the life out of me (I thought I'd had a TIA, I even went to Urgent Care who assured me I hadn't) I still get the odd dizzy spell but it seems to have settled since the HRT change.
Also, Anxiety can make things like dizziness worse, and suffering from this can bring you down mentally, the symptoms can cause stress and anxiety and it becomes a vicious cycle.
Speak to your GP, they may prescribe something for the dizziness, and think about HRT if you aren't already on it, as it does help with some things.
Take care, and I hope you get some help soon
xx

I'm waiting to see my gynae and I think I'm going to start on hrt. I'm pretty sure it's hormonal. I used to get this maybe once a year. Since my periods stopped I've had it about four times in a year. I've had a brain and ear canal scan. Everything cane back normal. So I'm veering towards hormones.

Have you been checked for Mineres disease https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/menieres-disease/
or cholesteatoma?  https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/cholesteatoma/

Ask the consultant about it. Did you have a proper hearing test in the ENT dept at the hospital. This really does seem odd Kay. Have you ever suffered from ear infections before?
If not go back to your GP & ask for further investigations.

I hope you get to the bottom of it. I have suffered from ear problems for several years now so know how you feel. It took several years to find out that I had a cholesteatoma & had an op to remove it 2 years ago.

Keep us posted.
