New regime
« on: May 16, 2020, 11:34:59 AM »

Hi ladies

Hope you are well during lockdown. I posted last month as a newbie and have been doing lots of digging around the forum. It has helped so much but still feel I am somewhat im the dark about things as you need to self-diagnose so much.

I'm 45 and have been peri-menopausal for approximately 3 years HRT for approximately 2 years. Tried a few regimes patches, tablets, mirena with mini pill on top (was advised I had PMS rather than peri but the double dose of progesterone was a brutal) so I stopped the mini pill as I felt awful.

Mirena and 2 pumps of oestrogel has been my longest continual regime. Have been using estrogeon continually for the last 2 years in one form or another.

I got the mirena removed 2 days ago and was prescribed Provera to take for 12 days and continue with my oestrogel.. I wasn't tolerating continual progesterone low mood, low libido, lethargy, no motivation, 2 stone rapid weight gain, headaches still irritable so thought I would try sequential. The sepcialist Dr isn't convinced it will work but I want to give it a go.

Was thinking of waiting until I get a period then take Provera for 12 days afterwards and continue with the gel. However, my symptoms could be due to low/high estrogeon levels. Who knows!!!

Just wondering if i should continue with 2 pumps throught the 28 days, or should I alter my estrogeon. So I am having a bit of a reset and I just don't know what to do.... It's such trial and error any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks if you have read to the end and have any energy left to reply lol.

All advice welcome xx

The oestrogen dose should be the same throughout the cycle. If you are still peri you should use the hrt to fit in with your own cycle. You might want to add testosterone. They'll only prescribe it for low libido but it helped my lethargy, low mood, motivation and muscle tone too. My libido was zero. It's a good idea to try anything new on a cycle as you can tell if you have problems with the progesterone.

If you get a period then count that as day 1 then start the Provera on Days 15-28. If no period comes after say 3 weeks then just start the Provera and count that as your Day 15. Hopefully it will all get to sync eventually depending how far you are into menopause now.

Thanks for all your replies. I've taken 4 provera so far (once my period eventually finished) and have been prescribed tostran which I have been using 3 days per week. Been feeling okay but the weight gain has still been going up and up. Another 5 pounds in a week. Progesterone and me are not good friends  :-\

That's a lot. If it's fluid retention it may go down once you stop. It's possible hrt isn't to blame, we're at an age when our metabolism slows down and few of us can eat what we used to without putting on weight.

Thanks Sheila99 I spoke to the Dr and she said she would like to check my bloods so I'm going in on Tuesday. I should have said I have also went up a shoe size  :-\ I bet everything will come back as normal. Had 2.5 stone weight gain. With about 1.5 in 6 months. I have a good diet about 80% of the time and work out regularly. I might buy water retention tablets.

Considering dropping my estrogen to two pumps see if that help the bloating. I'm feeling like I don't know my own body. It's so frustrating  :( the joys of peri x
