Patch to Sandrena gel.
« on: January 30, 2025, 08:38:45 AM »

Hi Ladies, I have just been given Sandrena sachets to try after not getting on with patches. When do I change from one to another? Do I take my patch off tonight and start gel in the morning? And can I put the Sandrena on my shoulders like I did with estrogel or do I need to put it on thighs? I find arms easier for drying afterwards. And also from what I have read on here Sandrena is stronger than estrogel so should I start with half a sachet? I dont want to get horrid side effects from a surge in hormones, is it easy to use just half a sachet?

If you don't get on with patches I would take it off now if it causing you some kind of side effect or other issue, and apply the gel as soon as you can.

People absolutely do put the gel on their upper body.

There's no evidence that putting patches on the upper body is harmful either, the advice to put them below the waist stems from irrational fear of breast cancer in the wake of the WHI during the era when patches became popular, but this is unscientific as the estrogen is absorbed systemically anyway.

You can split the dose of gel and take it morning and night if you want, and if I were you I would take your full dose this way rather than only taking half a dose once a day.  Gel has the shortest half life of all estrogen formulations.

Thank you so much for that information, I will get swapped straight away. I just think putting on the arms is easiest, I can keep them uncovered and get on with things better than having to wait to get dressed properly x

I started off with patches but 4 weeks in there were no improvements in my main symptoms (insomnia & anxiety & hot flushes) so I swapped onto gel and upped my dosage and within 3 days my hot flushes had totally stopped.  Now 6 weeks in and still no hot flushes but no change to my other symptoms.  I have also been crying constantly for the last week and it just feels hormonal (I can just about remember back to when I started my periods and the emotional rollercoaster that was) asked my GP if I could up my dosage to 3 x 0.5mg sachets.  Fingers crossed that helps and I hope you find relief with the gel :-)
