Estrogel not Oestrodose
« on: May 07, 2020, 12:36:12 PM »

hi everyone

I realise that a lot has been said about the differences ( or not) between the two, estrogel and oestrodose, but my issue is that my local pharmacist refuses to source estrogel, only saying that she will return my prescription if i am not happy with oestrodose.( My presecription states estrogel not estradiol)  I live in South London and I was wondering if anyone had the same problem. And has anyone used the online pharmacy that Dr Newson recommends on her website? https://www.theindependentpharmacy.co.uk/

Thank you for your help:)

As far as I can see its all Oestrogel now!

Some months ago when we were still having this discussion the Oestrogel and Oestrodose came in different shaped packaging.

The last couple of prescriptions I've had its the old Oestrodose type packaging but now the box and container both clearly say Oestrogel. They've definitely changed the labelling.

I haven't had anything marked Oestrodose the last couple of times (whereas I always got it 6 months ago!).

By the way - I'm one who never noticed any difference anyway.

Hi Stella Jane,

Yes, the box definitely says estrogel on mine, but there is still a sticker covering up the real ' product' name of Oestrodose on the back of the pump. i have just been into another chemist and discussed this with him. he says it is all to do with the PL number (?) and has assured me that he can get me the estrogel for the UK market. I will have to wait for my next prescription now to see if he can or not.

I'll post the results in case anyone is still having the same problem.

Thanks again

I now use a independant chemist, hard to find these days though, who always manage to get Estrogel in and they now have it on their computer system that it is my preferred choice.

Hi kateJ The reason it has estrogel on the box is because it is. Oestrodose as a brand name does not exist in UK. It's just named that for other EU markets a bit like some are finding recently with different patches eg Evorel/Evopad etc. It's just the outer packaging that differs from what the manufacturers told me, and all made in same factory.

I wouldn't worry about it, especially not at the moment! Slap it on and enjoy the weekend! :)
