Newbie and looking for advice xx
« on: April 26, 2020, 10:55:19 PM »

Hello,

Looking for help. I'm 49 and really started feeling not quite right about 18 months ago. Bad night sweats, hair loss and my periods becoming heavier. I went to Dr and had full bloods done and all clear and good range( thyroid, iron  etc). I started on the herbal route and it made a good difference up until the start of this year. All symptoms have made  a comeback with great gusto! I have to sleep on a Bath towel at night I sweat so much and my hair if failing out all over the place.
Had the Mirena coil fitted end of Jan 2020  and its been a great help( why didn't I get it years ago??) for the progesterone part and after letting it settle I went onto estraderm x25 for 1 month. Not a bit of difference in symptoms. Dr ( and surgery pharmacist) increased to estraderm x50 ( binliner size) but still not a bit of help. No good effects, no side effects. Nada ! I had the patch on my bum, on my front and hip area. Made no difference. My Dr changed me to 2 pumps Estrogel and advised to alter dosage to suit. Tried 2 pumps for 3 weeks. Nothing... went up to 3 pumps still nothing. I tried in on inner thighs, then arms then shoulders and still no effect good or bad. Anyone experienced this or knows if I'm doing something wrong. Thanks so much x

Hi Gmckb1. Sorry you are having such a time of it but rest assured that lots of us take some time to find the right HRT for us.  It is advisable to try each HRT for at least three months as it can take this long for any side effects to disappear and for the benefits to build. It seems as if you may have changed the type of HRT too quickly before the full benefit would have been reached? It's great that you are getting on well with the Mirena as that's the progesterone sorted  :)

Someone with more knowledge will be along soon.

Hi!  many find that once their hormones go awry any benefit from herbals is lost.  Also, the body doesn't get where is it suddenly unless surgery is involved so the body may be a few months taking up any HRT - 'replacement' - seems to be the word that people forget ;-).  it is suggested that if an HRT suits overall, that one should remain on it for at least 3- 4 months to allow for adjustments.

Do you keep a mood/symptom/food diary, some find it of use.   :bang: do use the search box, put the name of the medication into it and see what pops up - make notes ;-)

Thanks so much ladies. I didn't realise it could take so long. I thought I would get at least a side effect fairly soon!( just my luck) Started a diary too. Any other help is much appreciated xxx

Browse round.  Make notes.  Read our funny room ;-).  Ask as things cross your mind!
