NHS Charity collections
« on: April 09, 2020, 07:11:15 PM »

:-\ ......... now forgive me if I'm being thick but when did the NHS need general charity collections?  Years ago the Hospital for which I worked asked the public for donations for specific items of equipment, many which ended up never used due to the NHS not going to fund people to operate them.

Now I hear that there are charities to enable the NHS to buy: what exactly ?  :-\

I didn't realise until a few months ago that Gt Ormond Street is mainly run on charitable donations  :-\

I can find Gt Ormond Street as an example  :-\ and there is a list of 10 samples of NHS Charities on the NHS Charities Together web-site.

BACKGROUND
NHS Charities
There are more than 250 NHS charities across the UK and most of them focus on helping our hospitals do more. Collectively these charities give ?1 million every day to the NHS so that people can stay well for longer and get better faster. In recent years NHS charities have funded major capital projects, pioneering research and medical equipment at our hospitals, helping patients access the best possible care when they need it most.

They also play a key role in mobilising volunteers to support NHS staff, brightening wards and waiting areas with colourful and engaging art and building an important link between our hospitals and our communities. Other NHS charities support mental health trusts, community health trusts and ambulance trusts.

These vital funds and services are above and beyond what the NHS alone can provide, touching lives and making a huge difference to millions of people when they are at their most vulnerable.

Coronavirus: Army veteran Tom Moore finds out he's raised ?5m for NHS

A 99-year-old army veteran who has raised millions of pounds for the NHS says the response from the public has been "completely out of this world".

Tom Moore ? who had aimed to raise ?1,000 by completing 100 laps of his Bedfordshire garden by Thursday ? found out he'd hit a new fundraising milestone live on BBC News alongside his daughter, Hannah.

so where's it all going  :-\ - Company cars?

:thankyou: Diane200   Where did you find that info. ? - I have been out all day in our garden so am late catching up.  I didn't donate because I don't trust Charities to put money to good use ... [long story short].  If he has specified specific charities it has to go to them.   There are ?ks sitting in accounts because they were given for specific collections - until everyone who donated has died, it can't be redistributed.  [sp] [long story short .......  :D ]

Somebody has now started a petition Demanding the government match pound for pound what Captain Tom has raised.   Do they not think that in the long run we will all be paying for this in taxes etc.?   Do they not realise that the Govt have already paid out billions in support for unemployed, self employed, furloughed workers? They have been pumping money into these and loads of other areas for weeks now and it is not a bottomless pit.   I think given the very difficult and once in a lifetime circumstances at the moment they are doing a good job.

I will just add that anybody who runs a business and pays business rates (and who completed the forms correctly) has received a very substantial grant in their bank accounts today.  Forms completed, assessments done and payments into banks in just over a week. That's very good in my opinion.  I also know someone who is  on Universal Credit and he reports that it has been straightforward and he has had no problems.
