Has anyone increase their Vagifem without doctors orders?
« on: January 29, 2020, 04:21:52 AM »

Hi Ladies,

Been using Vagifem and Ovestin (externally) two nights a week since November. Gone backwards a week ago. I believe it was because I inserted the Vagifem to low (3cm), I read it was good if you have external virginal pain. For me it was like missing a night. After one day my virgina  started burning all day long. I can't wait for another dose tonight. I had virginal atrophy about 14 months now, started Ovestin in 28th February and it work for awhile and started getting worse again, so started with both Ovestin and Vagifem I also use Vagisil two times a day, and I'm waiting for Yes to send me samples before I commit $35 to buying Yes (I live in Australia).

I've got my doctor appointment tomorrow, I would like to increase my Vagifem to 3 nights a week. I'm worried she will say no. Has anyone increase without their doctors orders?

Thanks Lyncola

Hi. I increased mine from two a week to three a week. Vagifem used to be 25mcg per pessary and I was originally prescribed  two a week. When they changed them to 10mcg per pessary I was kept on two a week but I found that wasn't enough as my symptoms returned so decided to use three.

I didn't ask my doctor at the time but when I went for a review I told her I was using 3. She tried to get me to reduce to 2 but I told her I had already reduced since I was originally using 2 x 25mcg per week and now using  3 x 10mcg.  She accepted that and I am still using 3 a week

I was assured by a urogynaecologist and her supporting nurse that it was fine to use as many Vagifem as I needed (5 to 7 if required) but I did have a battle with the GP practice. 2 a week is the absolute minimum needed.

I use Vagifem daily which my GP was quite happy to prescribe.

Hi

Since my recent saga with the new type estrogel and return of symptoms I've had internal twinges again so I'm just going to up my Vagifem to 3 per week. Then have a go with Estring x

Thanks for your reply's

I did see my doctor and she told me to increase to 3 times a week for three weeks on Vagifem. But I could do a week load if I was bad.

As my poor virgina was already burning with pain for a week while I waited for my appointment, I thought stuff it. I'm doing the two weeks loading, the three times a week and I will see how I go.

The reason I decided to do the two weeks loading is because my doctor never got me to do it at the start. She said because I was on Ovestin I didn't need too. It's been 5 nights now and I'm only starting to get a little bit of relief.

We are a bit behind Avalon in Australia, can I please ask you what is Tibolone? I haven't heard of that before is it a HRT or virginal atrophy medication?

Hi Avalon,

Thanks for your reply. Yes it is humid at the moment, but looks like a good amount of rain coming through Brisbane this week. :)

Avalon do you think the hotter weather makes atrophy worse? Just my atrophy was the worst this time last year before I got it under control. And it was January and hot and went bad again.

Just a thought.

Hi Avalon,
It's always one extreme to the other in Australia, no rain and fires and now like you said local floods. It's strange not to need the AC or even ceiling fans on.

Hi Stellajane I found Vagifem works best up high for me too. One day before I had my flare up, I decided to use it low, big mistake. I'm now back to sticking it up as high as it will go.

I'm slowly getting better, but I'm sick of a burning virgina :o
