Continuous spotting with pain
« on: February 18, 2020, 07:18:00 PM »

Hi. I'm 41, tentatively diagnosed as perimenopausal based on one high FSH result. I missed one period, then had two at monthly intervals, then less than two weeks after the start of the last period I started spotting, which has now continued for 11 days, accompanied with lower abdominal pain, like moderate periods cramps but continuous. I've never experienced spotting before, and my periods had been very regular. I only used to get pain on my first day or two of a five day period. I've got an ultrasound appointment for 5th March but this feels like a long time away. I'm terrified this is a sign of uterine cancer. Has anyone had similar symptoms? Thanks for any response.

Hello,

I had cramps that started about 10 days after the 1st day of my cycle. At first, the pain was mild and lasted for a couple of days. As time went on, the pain became more intense and lasted longer, anywhere from 10 to 14 days between periods.

I was initially unconcerned because my GP said it was normal to cramp mid-cycle when i'm ovulating. However, when things started getting worse, i was worried and she sent me for a scan.

The scan showed i had 2 fibroids. I was referred to a gynae and she said fibroids dont typically result in pain as I described. Anyway, scans and tests showed nothing else of concern. That was 2 years ago. I had another scan in October and aside from the fibroids, things still looked ok.

Our symptoms are somewhat similar, apart from the spotting. But afaik, it's normal to spot during peri due to fluctuating hormones. And as my experience shows, it can also be 'normal' to cramp mid-cycle. But with that said, it's great that you're getting it checked out.

March 5 does seem like a long time away. Maybe you can ask to be placed on a cancellation list?
