Utrogestan new user
« on: January 31, 2020, 09:17:44 PM »

Hello
I've been prescribed Oestrogen and Utrogestan. I'm 67, and I'm meant to take 100mg every day continuously. Some posts on here have said that they can't tolerate continuous use. Is it OK to take less?
Thanks.

This is the dose normally prescribed. Some people do use less, particularly if on low dose oestrogen but it should be done with the agreement of your gp and you should have scans to make sure your lining isn't building up. Many, many people are perfectly OK on utrogeston and the chances are you will be too. If you use it vaginally instead of orally you bypass the gut so are less likely to have problems.

Hi Starbuckfan - don't let what you read about utrogestan on the forum bother you.  You are just starting out and you just won't know until you try.  100mg is the smallest dose for a "normal" prescription as Sheila99 says.  Don't start out with less and we an cross the "I don't get on with it"  bridge should you ever come to it, which fingers crossed you won't  :)

Let us know how you get on! x

Thank you for your replies. I've always used patches and not swallowed any HRT, so am a bit anxious about the pills. First dose last night and still alive 😂.
It's so good to talk to people on here, but you're right, problems are obviously highlighted. Will carry on and hope for success.

Do you know it can be used vaginally? Just push it up as far as you can. It's off license this way in the UK but not in other countries.

I'm a nil-by-mouth gal too when it comes to HRT - patches and vag prog + testosterone gel and vag oestrogen to keep VA at bay. I wouldn't want to take it all the time this way though ( ie vaginally). Hopefully you will be fine with it - let us know how you get on :) What dose of oestrogen do you have?

Thanks Hurdity.
I'm using 2 pumps of gel, and so far so good. Feelng better. Do you have the same dose of progesterone regardless of the amount of Oestrogen, or does it increase in order to protect the womb?
