Hello this is my first post on here - I am 55 and been on hrt for 4 years - evorel conti - no real issues apart from the odd mood out breaks and if I forget to change.  with the shortage I was unabl to get at the end of the month October - I was put on to Elleste  - this was not a good experience as had really sore breasts etc - however to cut to the chase - I managed to get some patches and started them 2 weeks ago - and today I am bleeding - im not thinking heavy but alarming enough for me to panic ( not hard) .  Im aware that in a 4 week period my body has been given the run around with hrt and I have also been unwell so I am thinking it is the system back adjusting to the patches.  But shocked.    can anyone give me some words of wisdom.  I have severe health anxiety about drs etc so will do anything to avoid going there unless I absolutely have to.

Hi have you gone back to the Evorel Conti patches? Which Elleste tablets were you taking when you couldn't get the patches? X

Hi there - thanks for your comment - yes I was on the tablets for 2 weeks and now back on patches for about 2 weeks which time the symptoms reduced of the sore boobs, wired to the moon or above ha and been on patches or 2 weeks - not sure if I changed it last week on time as I had the flu   I was on Elleste duet 2mg/1mg   I don't really understand the situation of the differences - perhaps I should have read them before I actually took the tablets but it was all hell about to break out if I didn't.

Hi another question.....were the tablets Elleste Duet Conti or Elleste Duet 2mg? If you don't know the answer to this can you tell me if the tablets in a pack were all the same colour or were they 2 different colours? X

It says on the pack - elleste Duet Conti tablets 2mg 1 mg   estradiol/norethisterone acetate

the patches I was on were everal conti etradiol 50mc noretheisterond 170mcg

Yes that makes sense.  The tablets were continuous hrt like the patches .

It's likely that the bleeding is due to you swapping and changing hrt. When you start any new hrt you are advised to expect breakthrough bleeding for the first 3-6 months. Anything after this should be checked by a doctor.

If you are concerned then you should see a doctor. X

thanks - I have clearly been naieve here and asked no ? just glad to get the tablets then oh amazing the patches are back reduced the symptoms - I presumed that with me having been on the same before it was back to normal.

I seeing my GP about reducing them on Friday - so ill wait until then just the scary reading on line - go immediately to the dr  led me to think I might not be here on Friday

drs scare me - thank you again - hoping I wake up tomorrow and it Is gone - karma I just said the other day I wish I had my period over this menopause

No you haven't been naive at all. 2 years ago I knew nothing about menopause. I had a very steep learning curve xx

I have just gone with the flow and been on hrt for 4 years this was the lat thing I expected was them to stop making them - and never had a bleed but changes is what im sticking to for now

From the sore boobs I think you absorbed a higher dose of oestrogen. If you forgot to change your patch the continuous prog would have been interrupted, hence the bleed. Nothing to worry about as long it settles down again but good advice to see your gp if you're worried.

Hi everyone,

I too have now experienced breakthrough bleeding after 11 months of 2/3 pumps of Estrogel and 200mg cyclical vaginally of utrogestan. My last scan showed my endometrium was 6.4mm and it was finally decided that I would not have to have a hysteroscopy as it is considered within the normal range as I am on HRT.

I have been spotting/ light bleeding now for over a week.I started the utrogestan two nights ago , and the spotting is persisting. My worry is that spotting is not supposed to happen after 6 months new regime.

I am due back at the menopause clinic in 3 weeks, but if anyone can allay my anxiety in the meantime, I would be grateful.

Katej  I have just seen your query while browsing similar questions. What happened when you went back to the meno clinic in December? I have just written a very similar question. My endometrium is only 5mm but I have been told that I have to have hysteroscopy.

So sorry - only just spotted your reply to my post.

I am now on 4 pumps of Estrogel and will have another scan in February ( long waiting list I'm afraid) The nurse at the C & W didn't know what caused the breakthrough but my Estradiol levels are still low ( still only 145 after being on estrogel for a year now) But thankfully no more spotting.

I'm not sure what the scan will say -but hopefully won't lead to a hystersocopy.

Have you now had yours? How did it go?

No I haven't. It is scheduled for Feb 10th but I am not convinced that I need it. I wrote to the consultant yesterday and asked several questions/queried something which she appeared to have misunderstood.
