Globus pharyngeus
« on: January 20, 2020, 09:25:07 AM »

Has anyone else had this?

Had it before a few time but mostly on lasts a day or so, this time it came from nowhere after I couldn't sleep and took a couple of tablets last Sunday and it has been with me off and on since then.

It is a feeling that there is something in my throat, in the ‘v' at the bottom of my neck and top of my chest, like a pressure, feel as if there is catarrh or something but a pressure too.  It went away for a few days but has come back today at the start of the working week,  tension is giving me a headache too.

I can eat and drink perfectly well, no problems swallowing and it seems to go then and then something will start the feeling off again.  I think it is anxiety, which I suffer from.

Oh well, at least when I am feeling this the tension in my pelvic floor goes away.

Feeling fed up, I have not felt well with one health anxiety issue after another for almost a year.!

Don't feel as if I have.  Read it can be caused by many things and anxiety is one and post nasal drip, which I do feel as if I have.

I have a general GP appointment in Feb, if it is still there I will talk to her about it.

Reflux can cause an irritating need to clear the throat - I have treatment for the reflux and that cough has gone.  I also have post nasal drip  >:(  ::)

I had reflux for years and never knew. Only real symptoms were those you have described, including postnasal drip.

I am on medication now and can say I have never looked back, in the end this was the simplest of treatments with the biggest daily impact. Please get checked out for reflux, if it is this you will really benefit from treatment and will feel better so easily, plus the stress etc will reduce as a part of that too.

yes I had that Donnadoobie….it felt like something was stuck in my throat and like someone was sitting just below my collar bone on my chest!  I didn't have the feeling of having to clear my throat but I did also have indigestion more frequently.  I changed my hrt 6 times over 3 years and once I got the right thing it all went away.  I don't get that feeling anymore.  I get indigestion or acid reflux if I eat the wrong thing late at the wrong time but that's not unusual for anyone especially as you get older.  Acid reflux and tummy troubles are symptoms of peri and meno though.

One thing which I haven't been able to cure completely is I am clenching my teeth in my sleep and it's giving me ear ache!  its much better than it was but I can't get rid of it altogether.  We get some very weird symptoms with meno! I talked to the GP about the "stuck in throat" thing and they just said acid reflux but I'm not sure that was it at all!  I had it the whole time my hrt was up the left bit odd that??

Yes yes yes - had for 2 weeks, worried and fixated on it for 2 week. Made GP appointment. Waited 2 weeks for it. Went to GP.
Go told me it was all in my head / anxiety. Went home.  It went away in 2 days!  Honestly - the more you think about it the 'worse' it will be.  But I would advise just going to the GP as if they are a good one they won't mind putting your mind at rest, then you get go home and wait for the next thing!

Update.  Went to the doctor as throat was feeling worse, sore and achy.  She had a feel around my neck, took my temperature and pulse, looked in my throat.  I have a bad throat infection, causing all the same symptoms of Globus pharyngeus, although experiencing more pain.  Antibiotics, two tablets, four times a day for 7 days.  End of day two and I am starting to feel normal again, pain has almost gone and so has the headache.  Still having difficulty swallowing tablets but things are improving.

Moral,of the story is don't self diagnose and go to the doctor.
