Find someone who knows though Hurdity - it is obvious from what is reported here that GPs still lack basic knowledge or empathy about what ladies might require.

When I have a problem I go straight to the top.  So I would ring Dr Newson's Clinic and ask advice.  That would also give me the cost of consultations etc. and something concrete to return to my GP with.

CLKD -  I don't know why you've responded again saying jaydee should phone Dr Newson's clinic,  as my post was quite clear - you won't get free advice from this source as far as I know. Your advice to go the top is admirable - but your implication following this advice, that contacting Dr Newson is going to the top is erroneous! I'm not quite sure why you have recently started suggesting members contact her in the first instance after they have been failed by their local GP? She is a fantastic advocate for giving women the best treatment in menopause, and her website and free information is brilliant but she is a private menopause specialist GP. https://www.menopausedoctor.co.uk/about . Also why would you go back to your GP with the cost of consultation with a private specialist?!!

This is the Menopause Matters Forum attached to the Menopause Matters website and we have our own "in-house" advice service given by Dr Currie (available to anyone not just members), as I said at very low cost. In terms of "the top"  she is a renowned gynaecologist, former Chair of the BMS and now one of its trustees as well as editor of their academic journal "Post Reproductive Health". Not only that she works for NHS and as far as I know doesn't make money out of private patients. Going down this route is more like going "straight to the top".

Like I said the Women's Health Concern is the patient arm of the BMS so that is as specialist as you can get at low cost (re advice).

jaydee was not asking to be recommended a specialist and she likely thought from your post that it was just a question of picking up the phone. I pointed her in the direction of "someone who knows" at low cost and also she should not actually even need to spend money to get what she is seeking!

Let us know how you get on jaydee!!!!
