As Christmas approaches, I feel really grateful for a close relationship with my son, his partner and my husband. However, I have one person I would consider a close friend, despite work friendships, etc.

How many truly close friends do you all have?

Truly close? About two.

I think that most people only have a few close friends. My son has a personality very similar to me and he used to struggle to make friends. I told him that as long as you have 1 or 2 close friends who stand by you no matter what, then you are very lucky. He has one close friend along with his male partner, so I think he is very lucky indeed.

I have a good relationship with my son too. He doesn't want a girlfriend he's happy to do his own thing, at the moment anyway. He does have a network of friends...all good ones too.
As for friends, I only have one...she's amazing....💐

About 6-8 close friends and a dozen or so others I could call on.

That's really lovely. My mum is similar to you. She is still involved in two community groups at 88 and has so many friends.

Sad to say i have no close friends,lost my friends when i got married for the second time,they were not allowed to visit me,nor me them, controlling  husband, and once my children were at secondary school ,just didn't get chance to meet people, one friend i thought was a friend since then turned out to be a liar and troublemaker
I really only see my daughter and sons who i am very close to
I can make friends anywhere so it's not a case of not being friendly.but i also find this town is very cliquish, they tend to stick to people they have known from school,i am not from here originally

I feel so sad reading this. I had a difficult childhood with a severely bipolar father. We could never have friends over and this made it very difficult to make friends. At least you have your family.

I have one true friend, only see each other every few months but we go back over 30 years. I had more friends when my yonger children, who are now teens were small but they have drifted. I have work colleagues and always seem to bump into people who i know when out. I do not feel lonely, i crave time to myself actually. I also have three adult childen who live away now but two of those are incredibly close and always in contact.

My mother had lots of friends and feels like i am missing out, but i certainly don't feel like that.

I have 1 close friend.  Trouble is, he is a man, so meno things I keep to myself mostly.

I do have two daughters with whom I'm very close.  I used to be close to my sisters, but since my Dad died, one sister has become totally estranged (she has a very toxic husband, I could fill pages with the whys and wherefores), and I think the other 2 think I am the bad guy, so I dont see them so much, don't want to make them feel awkward.

I have a lovely husband.  I have neighbours that I can call on if necessary, even those that I don't particularly like would probably help in a crisis.

I have 4 girl friends but no one close.  Due to anxiety I would understand if they couldn't help when I needed it.  I have trusted women in the past but they have either drifted away naturally and didn't keep in touch  or simply walked away.

I do have a good Dentist and a supportive GP so my medical needs are so far, covered.

I have a couple of friends I've known for years but they are scattered across the globe so we're not really that close. No close friends where I live now and absolutely awful neighbours that, sad to say, I wouldn't help even if I was their only hope. It's a total contrast to everywhere else I've lived, where we've had lovely neighbours and we've all supported one another.
It actually doesn't worry me as growing up i had to rely on myself and I don't feel comfortable relying on others or having them reliant on me.

I've read posts on this thread with interest! My best friend from school moved to Australia years ago and although still friends we are not as close as we were. My close friend has dropped me twice now which makes me think I was just a friend of convenience, I still have her Christmas present and her daughter's from last year, she moved house which I offered to help which she declined and never told me her new address so there presents and card with 2019 calendar unopened. I have old work mates who are male we get together once in a blue moon for a catch-up. I was very close to my cousin who lives 200miles away and I use to go to her house about 6 times ayear however when I went on the change I developed bad panic attacks as a result I became agoraphobic and can only travel shortish distances so not as close as we were. My husband is the only person I class as close apart from mum and brother however anything I want to do, swimming, spa, bingo, girlie things I do on my own. It's abit sad really but I've been let down too often I'm better off without close friends. Clio

I like people watching if my anxiety is under control.  When really bored I make up stories about people in the hall

Since I moved house & area, I now have no close friends. It does sometimes bother me especially when I feel lonely. I'm close to my sister who now I live 30 miles from and I'm friendly with a few ladies through swimming. Suppose I'm lucky as I do like my own company but also enjoy spending time with my son, not forgetting my wonderful husband.

Oh CLKD, me and OH have done that before now. Sitting watching people whilst on holiday, we made up some far fetched stories about them....it was sooo funny....🙂
