I've had these for a few years now.

In September my thumb became infected just at the base of the nail. It affected my nail really badly, and now I think it's going to take the best part of a year to be OK again.

I had no idea the two were probably related, but after doing some digging around, it seems that they are.

I've been taking collagen supplements for a month now, and the difference it's made to my nails already is absolutely amazing.

I am also prone to splitting and brittle nails which was never a problem before the menopause. At 63 it may just be my  age though!  I have never done much with my nails and always kept them short but even so they break and split easily these days. I may look into supplements not so much for my nails but the area under my eyes has become looser of late and I'm wondering if a boost of collagen would improve that as well.

Yeah, mine have always been very short and pretty much unpolished 99.9% of the time. So annoying (and painful). Relieved the collagen is helping, would definitely recommend.

Another one with crumbling nails. I bought a box of Vitaglow from Superdrug, mostly because it was reduced from £9.99 to 99p! Anyway, I think it's great, I use it alongside OPI Nail Envy and the ridges on my nails have smoothed out and nails are stronger. I used to be in the beauty business and didn't put much stick in these products but I've been proved wrong, they work.

Hi focus,. Have had exactly the same as you with my thumbnail and quite painful.  I have been using Daktarin for fungal which did ease the soreness. My nail is now breaking really low down.  I must try the collagen, can you tell  me what sort you be have been using please?  I will look up the vitaglow and nail envy too.  So is this the flaming meno too!

Sure! They're the Bioglan gummies from Holland and Barrett. They're usually something like £18 for 60, but they're on sale for something like £13 at the moment.

You can take between 2 and 5 a day. I'm on 3 a day at the moment. Planning to stick with that for the first 2 months and then go down to 2 a day.

Focus happened to me too. I've had splits in my nail bed on both thumbs twice, first time was due to medication i was on, then I had some horrible thing granulation had to be treated with silver nitrate! Then due to constant picking of the skin round both thumbs they split again & took 9 months to heal. As I have been picking the skin since I was a child it's hard to stop, but now they are healed & I try very hard to leave them alone.
