How long for Vagifem to work?
« on: November 14, 2019, 06:44:40 AM »

Hi beautiful ladies,
I've had virginal atrophy for a year now, after going back to my doctor many times (I had BV too)I got put on Ovestin cream at the end of February. One week full time then two times a week. I never have been virginal pain free, at best about 90% better. But then the pain started getting worse again.

A week ago my doctor has started me on Vagifem, my loading time just two times a week because I was already on Ovestin. I just took my 3rd tablet last night and not really feeling any better. I am using Ovestin on the outside but I can find a bit off pain in the morning so didn't use it last night, and Vagisil which is not doing much. I will soon try Olive and Bee and Multi-Gyn, both recommendations for lovely menopausal matters ladies.

My doctor told me to allow 2 months for it to work? If you use Vagifem, how long did it take to see results?

Thanks and lots of love to all you menopausal ladies out there.  :-*

Although you have used Ovestin i would do the two week load with the Vagifem still.

Yes, I agree with Tinkerbell. They are different oestrogens, estradiol in Vagifem,  estriol in Ovestin,  so doing the loading dose makes sense to me. After 2 weeks you can do Vagifem every other day or up to 5 times a week, and continue with the Ovestin externally. VA can take quite a while to get on top of, and there is no point in under-dosing. Good luck.

Hi Lyncola:  I was dx'ed at 68 so for me it has taken about 4 months DAILY use of Vagifem to finally start to get some relief.  I assume because I am long past menopause it took much longer to see improvement as the average seems to be 2 months.  It takes a LONG time so be patient.

Hi Lincoln,
It's a difficult one this VA...I started getting problems downstairs about three years ago. Started on Vagifem about two and half years ago and Timbelone about two years...I feel ok some days and others not so. Oh to be a spring chicken again. I think VA is a chronic condition that you have to try to maintain and live with...and at times this can be a challenge. I have good days and bad, but am coming to terms with this,  at times,
horrible thing that I never even knew existed until three years ago...must have been in some lovely pre VA world lol. Good Luck 😘

I can ask my doctor for more Vagifem script, or I won't have enough, trouble is will she allow me? When she first told me to take it, I asked could I, and the answer was no I didn't need to? Or maybe I could see another doctor and asked for more scripts?

Yes see a different GP, my named one wouldn't agree to me using Vagifem more than 2/3 times a week but two others were happy to prescribe more if it is what i needed.

Why didn't the GP suggest using 'ovestin' every night until symptoms weren't there    .......    another failure of GP knowledge?  It took me a few weeks go feel comfy and if symptoms niggle I go back to every night for 3/4 nights plus over the counter pain relief.
