Perimenopause and hrt
« on: October 25, 2019, 07:11:51 PM »

Hi I was just wondering if any of you ladies have started hrt in Peri despite bloods coming back normal.
I would just like to know if it helped with your symptoms.
Thanks. X

Hiya Pink68,

I started HRT with normal blood results as mine were done to eliminate other causes of my raft of horrible symptoms.

The HRT has most definitely helped me, though I've just had my dose doubled as my oestrogen levels just took another sharp drop.

Make a list of the symptoms that are biggest issue for you (my list was oooooohhhhh so long!) and go see your GP. It is perfectly within guidelines to be issued with HRT whilst perimenopausal so don't take any nonsense!

Good luck!

Hi I'm on a HRT patch not fully menopausal yet as still very light periods. Feeling very strange at the moment. So not sure if going into it now. I'm 53 but feel 100! Apparently patches should make me feel better. Sounds strange but even my ankles ache lol.

Yes I recently started hrt in peri. My drs wouldn't consider it but Dr Newson had no qualms and said it was actually better to start it in peri when symptoms present x

Hi Trace. Welcome to the forum. It doesn't sound strange at all to have aching ankles as low oestrogen can cause aching and stiffness in all muscles etc. Patches should help. I started patches at 53 and I'm still happily on them 12 years later! Feel free to share any other symptoms with us. You might like to introduce yourself under new members.

Hey people, aching joints are pretty common.  Mine were so bad I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and yet when I got on my right hrt everything settled significantly.  My ankles and knees were so bad I could barely lay them down on the bed, the actual weight of them when I was sleeping would wake me in pain.  Went on for about 6 months before anyone clocked it was a symptom of meno.

I started on hrt at around 45 and my bloods were ok but my sleep was poor, my anxiety was increasing, my joints hurt - all symptoms in peri and meno.  Yes Pink68 - tell us all about yourself in New Members xx  :welcomemm:

Hi Bobidy, thank you for replying, what type of hrt did you start on?

Hi Trace53, hope the hrt works for you, I am 51 and have had symptoms for about 5 years, periods are very irregular so don't understand why bloods are normal! 😳

Hi
Hi peripagan hope you feel better on your hrt.  It's great to know it can help. X

Hi taz2 I to have sore joints, just last night I couldn't even lean on my wrist as was so sore. This peri lark is rubbish.

Hi ladybt28, thanks for your reply , how are you now? Hope the hrt is working for you. X :

Thanks ladies for all your replies so good to know we can all help each other. X

Hi, I am on estrogel. The gel allows you to increase in half pump increments to help minimise side effects, up to a level where your symptoms can hopefully get better. This is usually between 2 and 4 pumps. I'm on 3.5 pumps now and the improvements for me have been subtle. I've also just stated Androfemme testosterone.

Here's a couple of peri podcasts you might find interesting:

So after a full 12 months on the right hrt, all things considered I am well, as well as I am going to be, and better than I have been in 20 years!  I too am on oestrogel like Bobidy and am on 4 pumps and I use utrogestan on a cycle and have a bleed despite the fact I am 57 and it is not necessary I have a bleed and I am also on Tostran testosterone 3 times a week.

I agree with Bobidy, I like the gel because it is flexible in dosage without having to keep running to the GP is you up it or lower it dependent on symptoms.

Hi Ladybt,
I currently waiting to see a rheumatologist to see if I've got fibromyalgia. And I don't get aching joints? I get random stabbing pains though out my body they can be short and strong and then quickly change to a different area. And my doctor sending me to rheumatologist? My pains are so weird the other day I had sharp stabbing pains shooting out of my right butt cheek for about 10 minutes, I mean what the hell up with that :)
I believe it's menopausal as I for the last four weeks cut 90% of sugar from my diet, and it's reduced it a lot. And the weight falling off which is not a good thing for me because I never had a weight problem.
I would love to go on HRT, but can't as I had a hysterectomy June last year, but my ovaries which they left in are still giving me problems  :'(

Just a quick reply Lyncola but after hysterectomy ovaries often go into decline. I don't understand why this would preclude you from using HRT?

Hope you soon get an answer to your stabbing pains. These sound similar to the electric shocks you can experience when stopping anti depressants. I get the same type of pains in my neck and back and this is down to wear and tear in the spine/neck and is not connected to my fibro apparently.

Hi Bobidy, I have been given the gel and  ultrogestan by gp, just reluctant to try as go said bloods were normal so Iam worried I get to much hormones. Thanks for the podcasts, I have been following dr Newson and liz earle podcast . X

Hi ladybug 28, that's good you feel hrt working for you. Xx

Hi lyncola, I was also referred to rheumatology because of ongoing joint pain, nothing was found for me. X

Yeah, I started hrt during my peri at 41 due to awful symptoms. My period was very very light and my blood test almost normal but I had too severe symptoms.

Hi Taz2
My doctor wants me to do another ultrasound in 3 months to see if there's any change. I will at that point if no change, asked to be sent back to the gynaecologist. My doctor says they won't do anything as my ovaries aren't bad enough, just bad enough to stop HRT. But at least I can talk to them and state my case. At that point I should know if I have fibromyalgia too.
The joys of being a woman, I wish they just ripped the bloody ovaries out when I had my hysterectomy, I was told it was better to keep them in. 3 years now they have been given me problems and two operations  >:(
