Is this a crazy idea??
« on: October 10, 2019, 01:55:24 PM »

Hi all,
I've had my thinking cap on ahead of my visit to the meno clinic in a couple of weeks - they so look forward to seeing me  ;D  ;)
I changed to 2mg Zumenon from 6 pumps Oestrogel 3 months ago (100mg utrogestan vaginally for 12 days, couple of blobs of tostran per week).  Initially I felt AMAZING, then totally rotten and a complete wreck.  I got my blood tests back to day and I've gone from struggling to keep my oestro at 200 to a whooping great score of 925 - so this is good news but I'm thinking maybe there might be a bit much oestro now.  Plus my thyroid is back within normal range for the first time in 18mths.
I was thinking back to the only type of contraceptive pill I was able to tolerate - Triphasil and wondering if I could tailor the HRT dose a bit more to mimic a 'natural' cycle so for example tapering the Zumenon and Utrogestan up and down a little as would have happened pre meno.  Does this sound totally crazy - has any one else tried this before??  I didn't take the Zumenon for the first couple of days to utro this month and I actually felt really good, and haven't felt as bloated through the utro phase as I usually do.  What do you think ladies, should I give it a try?

Woodpecker - would you explain what you mean by crap? I'm wondering if my E is too high as I can only use the tiniest amount of E before I too feel really crap. What were your symptoms?

Anxiety attacks and uncontrollable crying are the main ones - unfortunately the same symptoms I had when my oestro was too low expect that when it was low I had more hot flushes.  In fact before I got my bloods back today I was expecting the oestro levels to be low again because of my symptoms. The nurse at the clinic told me that too high or too low of the same hormone can cause the same symptoms..........

Yes, that same symptom thing always gets you! I still get occasional night sweats so presume it's low rather than high for me.

Good luck with your fiddling.

Hi Woodpecker

Sorry to hear about your symptoms - and that is a very high oestrogen level! How soon after taking the tablet were the blood tests done?

Also how old are you? The normal COC pills I think are not prescribed to older women but there is one that is similar to HRT ie contains estradiol - and is phasic in the send that there are 3 different doses of oestrogen (1-3 mg) throughout the month but only 2 tablet free days. It's called QLAIRA and also has one of the newer generation ( better tolerated) progestogens in it. Here is the info on what it contains:

https://www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/6536/smpc

That one I think can be prescribed up to 50 and maybe older (since it does not contain synthetic oestrogens which are higher risk).

Sorry to hear you're experiencing this too.  I have found that keeping a symptom diary really helps me when I go to the clinic - and also it's useful to look back on.  I track symptoms for three months, then get bloods done just before a trip to the doctor/clinic to see if tests correlate to symptoms. good luck xx

Thanks for the link Hurdity, appreciate that.  I'm 48 - I can't remember when I took the pill that day unfortunately could have been an hour before, could have been afterwards.  Might see if I can get another test done and make sure I take note. Meanwhile might miss a couple of days and see how I feel.

Many thanks Woodpecker - you're right, and I've tried to keep diaries but just get bored. Boredom however should be no barrier to finding a pattern! I'm starting today!

Hope you feel better today.

I know what you mean about boredom, I don't write everything down or even make a record everyday.  I just use notes on my phone and then when something 'happens' I make a note of it e.g 14 - 17 Sept overwhelming anxiety and crying  ;D and also my withdrawal bleeds as these have been an issue for me.  It helps ato take ne out of the situation and distress by writing it down, and I find I can look at it more dispassionately.
Good luck xxxx
