Anyone have a RING doorbell which sends alerts? If so, how does it work - does it ring a mobile 4 example?

Our neighbourhood police say that the RING camera on the door bell system gives better imagery and coverage than some more expensive CCTV systems.

We need 1 purely for the RING as our mobiles are usually switched off  ::) and I don't have access to Hubby's .........
