Femoston Conti Headache
« on: August 25, 2019, 12:17:12 PM »

Hi
I've just started taking Femoston Conti 1/5 due to Angeliq being discontinued. I am on day 10 now and have had a headache for about a week, it's mainly at the back of my head and feels quite “tight” like a tension headache also morning anxiety has returned but once I'm up and get moving it goes. My jaw feels a bit tight too, I'm thinking I could be clenching my teeth while asleep?
I'm just wondering if anyone else had headaches on Femoston Conti and did they go away?

I changed to femoston conti after my FemSeven Conti patches went out of production. I definitely have more headaches, yes.  And constant muzziness behind my eyes. The cramps and spotting have settled though and I am just clinging to the hope that the head symptoms will settle too and telling myself that this is my least worse option in the absence of FemSeven Conti which suited me very well. I tried FemSeven 50 and utrogestan also which didn't work for me at all. Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks roseandthorn
Yes the muzzieness behind the eyes resonates with me too!
Hoping it will go away soon as paracetamol doesn't really help and ibuprofen upsets my stomach.
Think Femoston is my last hope for HRT as anything with norethisterone in it makes me depressed and causes a lot of hair loss.
Angeliq was brilliant for me,I'm so annoyed it was discontinued.

Hi, yes Femoston Conti gives me headaches too...been on it about 19 months or so. At first they were migraines, or felt like pressure behind my left ear. ..everyday. Really draining.
They have subsided over time, but still I get like dull headaches, and occasionally a migraine.....but migraines I've always suffered from anyhow...
On the up side, it's sorted every other symptom of meno out for me, so I can't complain.
Good luck, hope they settle for you too...xx

Thanks jilly
Glad to hear you're doing ok on Femoston it gives me hope. I've never really suffered from headaches before so it's annoying to have one every day,it's not really throbbing but just a dull ache at the back of my head and eyes.
Still I can put up with that better than the anxiety and depression I had on Elleste conti and Kliovance.
Wouldn't be suffering at all if they hadn't discontinued Angeliq  ::)

Ginny62, how long did it take for your hair loss to stop after the HRT you were on,and is it recovering
Mine is still dropping after 6 weeks off it,so just curious

Jaycee
My hair loss story is quite complicated! Had extremely thick and coarse hair, hated it actually as it grew outwards and was very hard to control. About 15 years ago was prescribed omeprazole for a stomach problem, took it for a month then about 3 months later I'd say half of it fell out over a 2 week period!! As it was SO thick before it wasn't that noticeable but I could feel the difference.
Every year around autumn I'd noticed much more hair coming out when I washed it then it would thicken up around springtime.
I began the menopause and took Elleste conti and noticed the sides and temples thinning dramatically left side worse than the right for some reason.
I then started Angeliq and noticed it growing back but I'd say it took a good six months at least.
The texture has totally changed it's a lot finer but I'm not too bothered as previously it was like a Brillo pad  ;D
Angeliq was definitely good for my hair and I'm hoping Femoston will be ok too, I definitely won't be taking norethisterone again as I'm sure it contributed to my hair loss.
It takes a long time for it to grow back and it grows back finer but I've no bald patches thank god.
I'm sure yours will stop shedding soon I'd give it another couple of months and if no improvement maybe see the Doctor.

Ginny62, Thank you for your reply,i have seen my Dr and had thyroid tests etc, also had a month on topical  steroid lotion, which has worked for some people, but not me
I already have bald patches, and the Evoral Conti made it worse,i did ask my Dr not to give me those as one of the side effects WAS hair loss, but he said the oestrogen would help, well no it didn't, because the progesterone was Norethisterone, the loss doubled within 4 weeks
My daughter was given those too after femseven Conti became unavailable, her hair is coming out too, shes going mad about it, as her hair is long and was thick. [not now though]
She is now on Femosten Conti tablets, but still losing hair, so maybe the EC takes a long time to come out of the system
I am sorry to hear Omeprazole caused your hair loss, i have heard about this before
Is Angelique now not available?

Hi Ginny, I also had daily mild-moderate headaches on Femoston Conti - Ultra Low.  I decided to discontinue after a month as they were increasingly associated with additional migraine symptoms & I was afraid of a return to the full blown, severe migraine headaches I'd had throughout adult life until postmenopause.  Oral HRT is not recommended for migraineurs, but I went into it with eyes open, having tried pretty much everything transdermal.  Might be worth persevering if not intolerable, as it can take a while to settle into a new regime as I'm sure you know.  I hope it gets better soon.

Thanks wrensong
I'm going to give the Femoston a go for 3 months and see if the headaches go, if they don't then I'll have to rethink taking HRT. I can't seem to find a HRT that suits me after they discontinued Angeliq.

Jaycee sorry to hear both you and your daughter are having hair loss it's so frustrating and there's not a lot can be done about it. I know any hrt can cause hair loss but  norethisterone is one of the worst as far as I've read on various forums. Angeliq has been discontinued due to  commercial reasons apparently.
I think we're just prone to hair loss as loads of women take hrt with no problems. If I'm prescribed medication for anything now the first thing I do is check if hair loss is a side effect no matter how rare. Hair loss was one of the very rare side effects of omeprazole and that's when it all started.
Hopefully once the norethisterone is out your system your hair will recover, it takes a long time unfortunately to grow back but I think to carry on taking norethisterone could have made it much worse.

Thanks Ginny,i hope it does grow back, as i am having to war a hat when i go out, i had slight hair loss before the Evoral Conti, no idea why,but had a lot of stress the last 2 years too
https://www.menopausematters.co.uk/forum/Smileys/extended/undecided.gif
My hair after the E C has bald patches from side to side at the back from the crown down, but has a layer of hair above it,which helps to cover it up a bit
I am thinking of trying some Viviscal, but it is very expensive, and takes 3 to 6 months to see any difference it is very depressing
Now back on livial, but wondering if that has contributed to it :-\
