Hello ladies.

The sweeteners used in vegan recipes are Maple Syrup, Agave Nectar, Dates, Date Syrup, Coconut Sugar and Date Sugar. I've used them all except Date Sugar because I couldn't find it on sale anywhere. I have no idea about  calorie content but I do know that eating whole Dates does not cause a rapid rise in blood sugar because the fibre slows digestion.

Hope this is helpful ladies.

Take care everyone.

Shadyglade, that's brilliant to lose a stone. I find it hard to shake off a couple of pounds so you're doing really well!

Kathleen, thanks for those ideas. I use dates in a recipe I've found of Nigella Lawson. It's a whole pack of dates, add water and simmer and add cinnamon. After 20mins or so break it up and stir into a puree and then add to oats, ground flaxseeds, chopped nuts of choice, cocoa nibs and mix all together. Then smooth out onto a baking sheet and put in oven for 30 ish minutes until golden. Cut up into squares cool and keep in fridge. They make lovely snacks or breakfast bars! :) x

Hello again ladies.

Jari - thanks for the recipe! I find that making good quality snacks is important if you want to avoid anything processed.

Wishing you well.
