Another Oestrogel question - sorry, it's about sleep!
« on: August 14, 2019, 05:05:41 PM »

Hi Ladies
I think I'm getting there with my mirena coil fitted 4.5 weeks ago (stopped bleeding last week - YAY!) and the Oestrogel. I have a question about dosage of the gel and how much is used by most women? I've dabbled a bit with one or two pumps per day but (whether its coincidence) I'm finding when I do two doses I get a bit sore and sensitive "down there". One pump on the whole seems to keep the flushes at bay and the aching joints are much much better ...but the sleep is still crap!

For the record I had been on Elleste Duet for 6 months prior to the gel and mirena so the flushes and joint pain were controlled quite well before I went down the gel and mirena route.

Does Oestrogel help with sleeping? If its a yes, I think I'll go up to the TWO doses (and stay at that) despite the sensitive/slightly sore sensation down below. If it doesn't make a blind bit of difference to sleep then I think I just need to stay on my one dose a day and try other ways of getting to/staying to sleep.

Hope that question makes sense. It's such a trial and error thing. Oh and my hair is still shedding! Would more Oestrogel help with that too - as well as the sleep? Sorry all these questions. x

I would get treatment for vaginal atrophy.  Do read our threads here about vaginal dryness and bladder issues. Make notes  ;)

For me the combination of Estrogel and Utrogestan has really helped me to sleep.  I am now on 3 pumps of Estrogel which is taking away some of the debilitating symptoms and I think that helps with sleep.  But I'd say the Utrogestan is what really makes me drowsy.

I have a Mirena and use three pumps a day, i rarely have a bad night and sleep really well. I wouldn't have thought the Oestrogel would cause irritation down below, are you post meno and have you had problems with soreness before?

Who knows what I am - to be honest!  ;D ;D

Basically I went 10 months with no periods last year and then in Dec got put on Elleste Duet 1mg. That meant that I started bleeding again every month on the final few days of when I was taking the progesterone part of the tablets. I'm still unclear if that means I was back to periods again - or was it a withdrawal bleed?!?!?! So, in answer to your question...I THINK I'm peri?!?

The GP in June suggested I have the mirena and the gel to stop the bleeds and so I had that fitted about 4/5 weeks ago. I bled solidly for about 3/4 weeks and now it's tailed off to nothing.

Perhaps I'm getting a bit sore because I'm still using panty liners and perhaps they're causing an irritation? Now I'm not bleeding I'll stop using them and see what happens.

The sleep is the one thing that I'd say I want to get better. All other things seem settled. Perhaps I should just bite the bullet and go up to the two doses each day and see if it improves the quality of sleep.  I think I'm just a bit scared to go OTT with the gel and try to stay nearer to the one pump a day but clearly there's women on here that are on 3 or 4 pumps a day so I probably am being overly anxious.

Thank you all for the support. Much appreciated x

Try two, one pump is a very low dose and incase you are concerned about Osteporosis in the future, seeing my MIL crippled with it i am worried, you need two pumps day.

Thank you Tinkerbell. I appreciate your time suggesting two pumps a day. I think I'll give that a go x

Hi Graciemouse,   :) I always apply Estrogel in the morning because I find it gives me a bit of an energy boost. I imagine it would stop me sleeping if I applied it later in the day. How are you getting on with the Mirena now?

I apply my Oestrogel at night, stops the palpitations and helps me sleep....just shows how different we all are.
