Passing Out
« on: August 09, 2019, 05:34:53 PM »

According to my blood tests my Doctor has told me I 'am well into' the menopause.  Up until the beginning of this year I have been coping.

However over the last few months I am getting increasing hot flushes up to 20 throughout the day and night, I have had terrible skin rashes and have been referred to hospital dermatologist.  I don't sleep well and just to top it off have started having dizzy spells and passed out recently after a long walk banging my head and suffered from concussion.

I regularly do walks of 10 miles but this whole episode really scared me and has made me very anxious about it happening again.

Can anyone tell me if they have suffered similar and whether HRT might help.  I have avoided it so far.

Have you had your BP checked recently? Can be a change in blood pressure. I get it when I stand up too quickly sometimes or if I'm very tired and do exercise. I think tiredness exacerbates everything. I fainted once after a bad night and a full day out on a school trip on a warm day.

I can't say whether HRT would help with the dizzy spells but before I started using it I had dreadful flushes/sweats and also suffered from skin rashes. HRT sorted out both things for me.  I was told once by a GP that I would never have another period as my FSH level showed I was "well into menopause" but I carried on having regular ones for another year before starting HRT so it's not always certain just where we are in our own menopause journey and blood tests are very unreliable as hormones fluctuate so wildly.

What investigations have you been referred for re your dizzy spells? Passing out is not a normal part of menopause although you can at times feel off balance and disorientated.

Thank you for your replies.  Yes A&E checked blood pressure,  blood sugar, had an ECG and a CT scan and all were OK.  However, I guess that's not to say I didn't.had low blood pressure or los blood sugar when  it actually happened I suppose.

I have a telephone appointment with the Dr next week (it's practically impossible to get a face to face appointment) next week.

Will U make a list to put by the 'phone ready for that call?

Concussion - did you have a head injury form to take home with you?  Will you be followed up?  It is never 'just' concussion, as this can cause closed head injury problems.  So needs to be checked.

Have you had a resting/standing BP test done in the Surgery?  How is your salt intake?  My MinL almost died because she was told to cut back on salt more and more: she had cramp in her hands and feet and would wake dizzy.  She collapsed, was taken to Hospital and the Consultant couldn't understand when her blood levels came back, how she had managed to stand!  Due to too low salt levels.

I used to get dizzy at times, before my hrt kicked in..since then it's gone.
It used to just come out if the blue, make me feel like I was almost drunk, then disappear just as quickly.. it all happened in a matter of seconds. Then after I'd feel sick.
Had my blood pressure taken, and everything was ok. I put it down to my anxiety getting out of control, and not sleeping, back then I wasn't sleeping properly either. . But since the hrt has kicked in, I don't get it anymore. Xx
But I've always been a person who suffers badly from lack of sleep, not one to be able to just get on with it, it really knocked me about...xx

I also suffered with dizziness and poor sleep, My dizziness was often accompanied by nausea. HRT has made it much better and I rarely (dearen't speak to soon) get it any more. I think like MG says drinking plenty of water helps. I also think for me at least anxiety exacerbates it.
