Progesterone help!!
« on: August 08, 2019, 03:24:34 PM »

Hi ladies

After 2 failed attempts on Novofem I had a little break (but was still suffering without) so I visited my GP again yesterday to ask to try another variant of HRT. She told me that the norethisterone is better suited to ladies who's symptoms were heavy bleeding, as the progesterone in it is strong? (1mg by the way). We talked about Femoston in the past so said we would try that as it has dydrogesterone.

Cool. So the dispensary didn't have it in stock and they ordered it in for me, I have picked it up today. I opened the packet while I was there and saw that on the outside of the box it is 2mg Femoston (previously 1mg novofem). I queried it, and one of the dispensary assistants waved me away and said "well if the doctor has ordered it, it's right". Off I go.

I get home and read the leaflet more carefully. It states that it is for post menopausal women. It also has 10mg of progesterone in it as opposed to the 1mg before.

Can any one help or advise me with this please? I am seriously losing the will to live here with this surgery who have managed to nause up this whole process for me with lost blood tests and faffing about.

Is that an exceptionally high amount of progesterone? Is the dydrogesterone less "potent" (?) than norothisterone? Is there a massive leap-up from 1mg oestrogen to 2?

Sorry for the rant it's just so so frustrating!!!!!!!!!!!!!   :steamed: :steamed:

Hi if it is Femoston 2/10 then it is for peri menopause.  Femoston Conti is for post menopause.  It has got double the amount of oestrogen to Novofem. There is a Femoston which has 1mg of oestrogen.

Femoston has got more progesterone, but you can't compare the amounts as the progesterone in Femoston is a kinder , less strong progesterone. x

I love Femeston- it is the best i've Been on- i've Tried a fair amount of stuff LOL. I really struggle with the progesterone side of things. Others make me sick or nutty!

Hi Sgtvhilts

Great to hear that you got on with it well, what is sequi (sorry, new to all this?)

Still not started it as haven't had a call back from doctor yet :( bit narked about that because I've now lost a few days waiting to know if it's safe to start. What did you try that made you sick and nutty, was it different progesterone? I had problems with norethisterone, it made me really edgy! The GP said to me later that particular version of progesterone is good for ladies with heavy periods, which I don't/didn't have.

Hi it's quite safe to start the Femoston . It may well suit you better as the progesterone in it is kinder than the one in Novofem.

Sequi is when you take Oestrogen only for 2 weeks and then take Oestrogen and progesterone for 2 weeks x

Hello Dotty

Thank you for your message, to be honest it was more about the level of oestrogen being double what I was on before which was more of a concern as you already put my fears aside regarding the progesterone being kinder (thank you). I felt fine on the 1mg but because this is all so new to me I don't know what having 2mg would do to me symptoms-wise x

My serum oestrogen level in my blood test a couple of weeks ago was 394. It wasn't in the post meno range of <183 but in the grand scheme of things I'm not sure if 394 is good, bad or in the middle or even where expected. It seems fairly high for the follicular range but less than halfway in the luteal and ovulation phases.

I just don't know whether I'm better off leaving things well alone because all the to-ing and fro-ing is stressing me out!!x

Hi there is a shortage of Femoston 1mg so you may not be able to get it anyway. X

Hey Jari

Honest answer is I thought it would be the answer to all my prayers but in reality it probably isn't!!

My main symptoms are increased silent migraines (no headache just aura) with numbness and tingling in hands, arms and face. Nausea most days which I'm trying to correct by eating little and often and it's helping. I have been diagnosed with osteopaenia from a bone scan in July - just mildly, so it can be sorted with calcium + vit D Forte supplements (which are bloody horrible and make me feel sick too lol).

Looking back, I've had the dry bits, itchy skin (now better btw) libido is a bit lower. Typical tearfulness.

I do remember reading on here that symptoms do tend to rev up around your last period. Well my last natural one was in April I think. I had one bleed with the one month cycle of Novofem that I tried during June. Since then I feel like my body is revving up for a period, i.e. nagging period pain, irritable, bit loose in the tum. That's stopped over the last few days but I'm still aware of my womb at the mo if you understand me. Not an ache but it's there.

I think I may have had a few flushes - to me I am "blushing" over my body but not dripping with sweat, and they don't last more than a minute or so.

The progesterone in the Novofem (norethisterone) seemed to really affect me. I was very "wired". I can only describe it as surges of adrenaline that would come out of nowhere. I've had panic attacks in the past (but not for 20+ years or more) and it doesn't feel like that, but say you were about to do a bungee jump....just this whole body-clench kind of whoosh that makes your heart thud! I was definitely more snappy too, and I also noticed that I seemed to be losing a more hair than usual on the tablets.

Mogster....it sounds like it was the progesterone (norethisterone) that didn't suit you .  I had a lot of hair loss on Elleste Duet Conti.

I think i've mentioned before that nausea was one of my worst menopausal symptoms.  It was horrendous.  My symptoms got worse at the age of 48.  Then they levelled out and really got much worse again 3 years after my last period.  I tried every single natural method and vitamin under the sun....spent hundreds of pounds.

Once you find the right hrt your life can be changed.  Mine has been changed but it took a while and it took lots of incorrect diagnoses and hrt that didn't work.  Now I'm on Oestrogel and Utrogestan and testosterone I can honestly say that I am so much better.

Hrt will definitely help with your osteopenia.

It really is a case of trial and error. x

Hi mog
Been off line for a few days, hence delay.
Sequi is when you have Oestrogen and progesterone in your regime for ladies who are peri, still have a uterus and periods ( I think- I am no expert! Lol)
Yep, my troubles with other regimes was always the progesterone norethesterone =🤢🤮, utrogestan OMG totally🤯🤯. Femeston has the best prog for me, don't get any side effects at all. I was like this with the pill back in the day.
As for the Dr's- don't get me started. I have just bought a load of patches in Egypt to slap on as well as the Femeston.......as they are not happy with my choices even though I feel f****ing great and are doing it in full knowledge🙆‍♀️

Just to add that you can continue with sequi HRT (cyclical HRT) even if post-menopausal - for those of us who hate the prog and like the benefits of oestrogen only....the other way round doesn't work though as you can get unpredictable bleeding ( ie conti HRT when peri!).
