Uterogestan. Does it get better?!
« on: July 09, 2019, 05:54:36 PM »

I'm 45 and have early menopause.

Gynae added progesterone (in addition to oestrogen hrt i was already taking).

Gynae said to take 100mg uterogestan everyday (no gap - so continuous).

Well I lasted 3 weeks n said “no more”. The fatigue, the joint pain(!!!) and the mental apathy were getting worse!

So gynae said try it days 1-10 only - well I've got to day 8 and again feel
Like I can't do this any longer.

Fatigue, bad joint pain, and I feel so exhausted I'm like a zombie!!

It's not then estradiol part that's causing the issue I'm convinced it's only the uterogestan !!!

Thing is i know I lust have the progesterone support to protect from hyperplasia and risk of endometrial canderbetc but....I work in a very physical job and also in a job where I'm expected to be “upbeat” n “perky” and uterogestan makes me feel the opposite.

Gynae says stick with it the side effects will lessen but I don't feel I can ... If I didn't work in the job I do maybe   I cld try and see but ... i simply can't Function on uterogestan!

Also interestingly  my body doesn't seem to absorb the oestrogen well because despite being on the extradot 75mg patches about 5 months blood tests still show below half of what Gynae wld expect!

So changed to Estrogel 2 pumps
rubbed  in each thigh daily.

I have always “struggled with hormonal issues , bad pms etc and then the peri - well I swear I “lost” at least 8 years of my life struggling with the exhaustion, the anxiety, the migraines... now menopause is here I hope It wld improve but it's still so complicated finding the right balance of what my body needs.

I do totally trust my Gynae (she's a menopause specialist) but I really don't think I can do her advice of giving it up to 3 months for uterogestan side effects to wear off.

Hi Jaymac- try giving it a bit more time, maybe try vaginal route if you aren't already. The side effects do lessen, some months ( I take for 10 days each month) are better than others. Utrogestan can be quite unstable, quite a few of us on here struggle with it but find it's a bit better than the synthetic progesterones. I felt I was being poisoned by it at first, I felt that bad. After about 8 days of it, I start to struggle. Discuss with your gyny the pros and cons of maybe switching to another form if it doesn't settle. I'm thinking of coming off it after 2 and a bit years of not feeling great on it. X

Hi

I've tried utrogestan for a year now. A year of my life I'll never get back. It made me so low to the point of being suicidal. Each month I was terrified to use it despite being told things would get better.

Well they didn't! I couldn't continue and was even contemplating paying for a hysterectomy to eliminate the needs for progesterone.

However this month I agreed to try Provera. And to my amazement not one symptom! I still can't quite believe it.

You don't have to struggle on if it's too much and done drugs suit some people better.

For all Utrogestan is meant to be the kindest most natural progesterone, there are a lot of women who can't tolerate it.

I'd speak to your doctor and look at the options.

Good morning Jaymac

For me the answer is no tried using it both orally and vaginaly but it just didn't suit me.

I now use Provera and the difference is like night and day it might worth asking if you could try it.

Another one who couldn't get on with utrogestan here. I had many of the symptoms described,  (taking it on a conti regime with FemSeven 50 patches after FemSeven Conti patches went out of production)..... And ended up with a terrible, uncontrollable bleed. My Meno specialist agrees that utrogestan doesn't suit quite a lot of women although others do well on it. I lasted about six weeks. Now on Femoston Conti which is better...no bleeding at least but am still holding out forlorn hope  that my old patches will be back on the market next year. You do have other options to try although I'm aware that the three to six month trial is usually what's recommended to see if side effects settle.
