Tena lady ad complaints
« on: August 06, 2019, 12:53:53 PM »

Just been on the news about the Tena lady ad, saying it sounds as if weak bladder applies to all new mothers,
I hate this ad anyway,it makes me cringe, as does the one advertising vagisan with Jenny Eclair
I think these ads are going too far

Well said  Birdy, I totally agree these ads are a joke and insulting to all women with atrophy!

Why do we need ads like that ........ to sell products but they aren't aimed at the lady with real problems!

They are just trying to sell their products.  Can't say the ad really bothered me but having said that I wonder what research they did first??

I generally use their smallest size one as a panty liner as it the only one that doesn't make me sore.

It's the little bit of wee,i object to, surely they don't have to make it sound as if women were all going around leaking wee
Not too bothered by the vagisan one, but as said could give better information, like see your Dr first

Can you elaborate on what you mean by going too far?

My issue is that it trivialises serious issues.
A leaky bladder is not something women should accept as a normal part of ageing or as something they should put up with after having children or being menopausal.
There is help available for women prone to leaks. And bladder issues are often painful and isolating.
And vaginal atrophy is so much more than a ‘bothersome vagina'. That phrase riles me! VA is very often a painful, chronic condition that has affected womens' lives in detrimental ways. Besides, Vagisil is nothing more than a crappy lube with nasty ingredients.
Not good enough.
So many Women are unsupported, misinformed, let down, and abandoned in their mid life.
Exactly my response. I feel like shouting at the screen sometimes!

The ‘bothersome vagina' quote has had women in uproar on the VA Facebook group.
Bothersome vagina? How patronising and offensive. How about cracked, bleeding labia, suicidal depression and a marriage in tatters due to no sex life?
Ugh, Jenny Eclair should know better!

I don't want to be controversial here but isn't that comparing apples with pears.  If women have symptoms like you discribe, surely they see their GP and not buy over the counter creams.  Women are affected in vary degrees so vagisan would be an option for many. It's like comparing aspirin with morphine.  I don't think this product is aimed at those severely affected.

I can remember when sanitary products were first advertised on TV and how controversial that was.  I just think it's good that this sort of thing is up there even if it is a bit clumsy.

Shadeyglade, no i don't think it is meant actually for VA but it should have advice for those that are affected, they don't need to go into great detail, but maybe say,if any more serious concerns see your Dr,or something similiar
It is the same with  the Viagra ad for men, not all mens ED problems are going to be solved with Viagra are they,? there are more serious problems like prostate cancer or other  problems with prostate

I saw an interview with the professional who has made the complaint about the advert.
Her complaint is not the advertising of the product but them saying it was normal to have incontinence after having a baby.
She said they should tell women to go and seek advice if they have a problem as it can be helped.

Shadyglade..BE controversial! Controversial is good and necessary! Question everything!! :)

Thanks Teresa.  The trouble is sometimes I don't know when to shut up.  ::)

I will say one more thing about Vagisan though.  I have checked out their website and there is full information on when to see your GP.  That all seems very clear and correct to me and I expect the same advice will be presented with the sold product.  I can't see a problem to be honest.

Many older ladies maybe don't have computers or think to look at the product advice on the websites.
