Excessive sweating-anyone else suffer?
« on: June 29, 2019, 10:57:54 AM »

I've always had problems with excessive sweating, starting from when I was in my teens. At that time it was mostly just my underarms. However in my 39s and 40s it got worse-I started sweating profusely all over especially from my face, head and neck. Over the last couple of years the head sweating had eased off quite a lot but over the last few weeks it has really come back with a vengeance. It is so embarrassing. My hair is literally soaked through with the slightest effort.

Anyone else out there with this problem??

Hi Mabel64, sounds very similar to me. I had symptoms since my teens, only plucked up the courage in my late 20's to see GP & get dermatology referral. Diagnosed with hyperhydrosis, initially was treated under NHS with iontophresis therapy, however they decided to change the service and those of us who had 'loans' of the machine at home were asked to return them and when new service set up would get the again. A year later, umpteen enquires still no local service so ended up buying a machine myself. I remarked to my OH recently that I haven't used it for a good few months, in fact probably since the beginning of the year. It is my hands and feet that were/are the biggest issue. I have also been diagnosed with a skin condition which is highly likely to be related hidradenitis suppurativa for which I am on long term antibiotics. For my underarms I used Mitchum roll on for years and it worked well but since start of peri have had lots of skin issues and now can only use simple.
I wish I had sought help in relation to it when it first started as has definately held me back confidence wise, it is extremely embarrasing in all situations but especially professionally and socially.

That's it Foxylady, knew it had a long name, glad I'm not doing short hand these days ;-).

It is a recognised condition so might be worth while having a chat to the GP mabel64?

Mabel64, have a look at the hyperhidrosis website I found it quite helpful. Ask GP for a dermatology referral.
