Too much oestrogen, too little?
« on: June 24, 2019, 07:27:06 PM »

I seem to have a glut of little symptoms which whilst they aren't enough to impact my life, make me wonder if there's a sticky that shows the symptoms of too much or too little oestrogen. I use oestrogel so rather than lowering or upping the dose, it would be helpful to know which way to swing. So for example, I know that a return of the sweats means I may need to add an extra pump of gel, but what about hair loss? Mine is coming out in droves 😟. Also, I'm feeling increasingly “flat”. Not angry or anxious, just flat. There are others but I just wondered if there was a thread already? 🧐 I know there's not one size fits all but the knowledge that some of you ladies has beats any other websites I've ever read!

Two per day. I often see when I'm reading these threads comments about symptoms being due to too much or too little. It's not a deal breaker as I really don't want to increase my oestrogel unnecessarily. I do think I've read sweats as being a good indicator that oestrogen could be low so I think I'll probably use that as a gauge. I just wondered whether any other symptom was also a good gauge. Ah well, no matter.

I agree, for me hot flushes were the first thing to go when I was put onto estrogen, so I think they're a pretty good indicator; low estrogen does also cause low mood, so it sounds more likely you need a bit more. No idea about the hair I'm afraid. Birdy's right, it's all trial and error so good luck...x

And have you had your thyroid checked? Hair loss is often hormonal but thyroid hormones are included in this as are stress hormones and iron.
If you are shedding it could indicate thyroid issues. Gradual thinning is usually down to low oestrogen. Shedding could also be down to high testosterone though. You could probably do with getting some tests organised through your doctor. Let us know!

Interestingly I got the results back yesterday. And I'm absolutely bang on normal. Though my dog has just been diagnosed with an underactive thyroid  ;D. I sort of suspect it's that my meno is getting worse and my oestrogen may need a boost but for now I'm sort of ok. I just wondered re all the little niggly symptoms.
