When do you apply your Oestrogel?
« on: June 26, 2019, 11:07:39 AM »

My main menopausal symptom is insomnia occasionally get hot but no flushes. So was started on HRT. I am on Oestrogel 3 pumps and my Utrogestan is now 300mgs orally daily at night.( has been that for the last 3 weeks) I am post menopausal. have been on regime 10 weeks but cyclically until 3 weeks ago.

I was told to apply the Oestrogel in the morning but noticed someone said they applied theirs in the evening. tried it the last 2 nights first night helped but last night awake from 5am having woken 4 times already.

My blood results 4 weeks ago showed my Oest and Prog levels were rock bottom.

Most people would be flat out with the amount of Utrogestan I am taking.

Last week things were so bad that I had to resort to Nytol for a couple of nights as well which was fine for 1 night but by the next dose I was spaced and could barely function.

My Dr is using Nick Panay's regime as she has worked with him.

I am due for review in a couple of weeks time

Up until this insomnia kicked in in menopause I occasionally struggled with tiredness.

I can't work at the minute as am too tired. There are days when I have to take to the settee as I cannot survive on 3-4 hrs interrupted sleep. I can barely function some days.

Any advice/wisdom would be appreciated, feeling at my wits end.

I split my three pumps of Estrogel, two at bedtime and one late morning, i had terrible palpitations at night so thats why i apply more then.
I couldn't sleep whilst taking Utrogestan, i abandoned it and went for a Mirena instead.

Thanks Tinkerbell, have you slept ok since changing from Utrogestan to the Mirena?

I'd give anything a go at the minute to get some sleep!

That's a lot of progesterone . What's the reasoning behind taking so much ? X

I have slept very well since I had the Mirena, but that may be down to the Estrogel  helping with the palpitations and VA symptoms that were particularly bothersome at night.

Progesterone is our sleepy hormone so I think that was the rationale behind it. My gut feeling is I may not be absorbing it so might ask for vaginally or Mirena

Thanks Tinkerbell that's worth knowing will be due bloods and a review in a couple of weeks.I have suffered from palpitations over the years since my 20's but never linked it to hormones! I take magnesium glycinate now which I find helps

I think that's an awful lot of progesterone. I take 100mg daily.
Progesterone can convert to cortisol. Maybe you need to lower your dose?

Thanks Birdy, I was wondering if the ratio O to P is too high, I'll try lowering and see.
