A note to the Menopause Society then, asking why you have to buy what should be offered via NHS? If they don't be made aware, they can't challenge the Government of the day.

True, but I need to challenge my doctor first and give him a chance to up my medication. If he refuses then it's back to the vulva specialist who can do this.  I cant tell if I need more oestrogen or steroid cream my atrophy and Lichen feel the same when theres a flare up.

Yes CLKD we are very lucky here,  I'm over 60 and get all mine free now, which is why I'm not happy having to pay online to get the extra amount I need.
You do get free medical insurance from your employer if on a contract in some countries though.
Hi Dierdre   I feel  for you regarding your problems with repeat prescriptions. I only get 1 month's at a time. I haven't yet been blocked from getting a new one but worry each time that they will do so. I also get my prescriptions free (due to taking others which are on the exemption list) even though I haven't reached 60 yet. I have a meno clinic appt. this week and am going to ask if he can let me have Ovestin to try. I know that the GP will refuse it because she wouldn't let me have more Estriol on the grounds that  "it isn't safe to use together with Vagifem and systemic HRT". She gave me a steroid instead for external use. It is actually working well but I don't know whether they will let me have more of it.

It's so frustrating how each doctors own option and/or ignorance comes before the actual guidelines and specialist recommendation, so some are worse off than others in obtaining the much needed medication. I wonder if the same rules apply to heart patients or diabetics  etc, are they all given the treatment they need or does it depend on which GP they get on the day as seems to be the case with HRT.

Rant over... I'm actually feeling better today, got a new tube of steroid cream, think the one I was using was past it's best and had degraded.  See how this goes   :)

We know that your GP is incorrect Katejo - I would send an e-mail asking her for up-2-date research to back up her statement!  I would also let Dr Currie and the British Menopause Society know her attitude.

Deirdre I made a comment re ordering Vagifem on repeat on the other Vagifem thread....I've probably repeated stuff that's already been said on here as didn't see this one!
