Bleeding halfway?
« on: June 04, 2019, 07:13:27 PM »

Dear helpful ladies, I could do with some help and advice. Ideally an explanation as to why this might happen, too.

So, I started hrt, evorel 25 patches and utrogestan 200mg 12 days a month back in the 2nd week in March. Started bleeding day 3, well before it was time to take the Utro.

Stuck with it, all fine, but no bleed after that first one. Went for a 3 month review still having had no bleed and have now upped the dose from evorel 25 to evorel 50. The GP was great and said if I don't bleed in the next 3 months on the higher dose, he would want to scan the uterus lining and do blood tests. All very sensible.

So 3 days ago I changed to the higher dose patch, this happened to be day 7 of utrogestan. Today I am starting to bleed, even though I have another 5 days of Utro left.

My question is how can this happen? I thought the Utro stopped the bleeding and it was stopping the progesterone that induces a bleed. So how can I bleed now? In some ways I am pleased to finally bleed but feel the hrt just isn't controlling it as it should.

Secondly, should I stop the progesterone to help the bleed happen properly? Then time the progesterone in to bleed in 1 month's time?

Thoughts?

Are you in peri or meno? If peri it's probably your own hormones causing it. My cycle has got out of step with the hrt cycle and if I start bleeding while still on prog I stop taking it. Not sure if this is recommended or not. 3

Thanks Sheila99. I am in peri and that's what I am considering doing, it's just that I am not so much out of step, more wondering if the progesterone is working at all, seeing as I haven't bled since starting hrt.

Is it possible to be progesterone resistant do you think? The utrogestan makes me sleep really well, but apart from that I have no other effects from it.

I think it's more likely the oestrogen dose has been too low for the lining to build up, I started on 50 in peri. I haven't heard of prog resistance so I don't know if it exists. I think your GP is right though, it seems sensible to give it some time on the higher dose then scan. It can take 3 months for you body to settle on a new regime.
