Mirena coil ?
« on: July 18, 2019, 07:38:25 AM »

Hi , I have been on Everol sequi patches for 18 months and had to have my dose adjusted . So recently the only thing that helps is an added Everol 50 patch added to the normal  patch every day whether it be the estrogen patch for two weeks or the progesterone patch for two weeks ( hope you can understand what I mean )I need to come off this due to it not being a safe level of the hormones put into my body  and not the correct level of both hormones but it's only that way that takes my symptoms away . The dr has suggested the Mirena coil and having also having the Everol 50 patch .
I just wanted to see what your views are with your experience on the Mirena coil . I always said no to the oil before as I don't want anymore issues to deal with eg bleeding for months on end as I have heard it can do .
The symptoms I got was hot sweats , low mood and terrible heart palpitations without that extra patch .

Hi Ruby
I have a merina & evorel 50 patch. I have been on this regime for 3 months and was very dubious beforehand whether or not to go ahead but my Gynae recommended it and to be honest, apart from some bleeding for the first few weeks, things have settled now. No side effects at all really.
I'm post meno at 51 and all being well, I'll stay on this regime for the foreseeable as I'm very happy with it ::)
Previously I was on evorel sequi but did find the 2 weeks on the progesterone patch quite hard ...felt down etc
Best of luck  :)

That would be great that if I didn't get the nasty symptoms that I get every two weeks on the progesterone patches .
I thinks it's just the thought of having the coil and it not working or causing more problems that put women off . I will keep thinking about it .
I had to go on higher patches because I even got the hot flushes when on the weeks of estrogen as well as the progesterone

Hi you could use Evorel patches and Utrogestan for the progesterone which might suit you better than the Norethisterone which is in the Evorel Sequi. X

I have a Mirena, had it fitted one year post memo, I use Oestrogel not patches though.
I had 4.5 months of very light daily spotting, really pleased I persevered with it as I am really happy with the regime, will get another one when it needs replacing next year.

Hi, I originally had a Mirena in early 2015 to help with horrendously heavy periods.  Took a few months, but bleeding stopped altogether.  Last summer (2018) I started on Estradot patches and all went well for a while, but I've had to come off them because of issues with high blood pressure.  Had my Mirena replaced beginning of this year, no problems at all.  Have to say, I really suffer with white coat syndrome, and so they knocked me out under general both times for the Mirena, and both times while they were in there they did a quick hoover and camera check.

One of the things I've never quite got to the bottom of is whether the Mirena has been responsible for my weight gain - about a stone and half over roughly four years.  I can't really say that it is, because at the same time my lifestyle changed from mainly running around a lot to an office job.  I do have the feeling, however, that the Mirena has been quite good in helping with hot flushes.  Doesn't eliminate them completely on its own, but before I would get to almost volcano temp.  Even without any oestrogen I feel better.

Finally, never been one for hormonal contraception in my life, so I was a bit circumspect about having a coil, but the gynae was lovely and I feel that it's been well supported - check ups / check ins, including a transvaginal, etc.

Best of luck with it all.
